Delta Corp, the company led by Jaydev Mody dominates the Casino business in Goa with its chain of 3 offshore gaming vessels in the Mandovi river. “Indians love to gamble like the Chinese, and the market exists here,” Delta Corp Chairman Jaydev Mody said in Mumbai during a media interaction just before the opening of the Deltin Hotel which became first five star hotel of Daman. Although, the five star 187-room hotel is a bit distant from the two main beaches of Daman, it is attracting sizeable number of tourists to its charm. With the news of casino opening in coming months, the tourists especially Indians are excited to revisit.
Delta Corp is eyeing to tap the casino lovers to Deltin, Daman as it is near to Mumbai and also well connected to the main land of several cities of Gujarat. Sources say the Deltin administration had applied for the offshore casino licence for 150 tables just after they got 5-star certification back in September this year. Jaydev Mody, a gambler turned gaming entrepreneur is leaving no stone unturned to get the green flag from authorities and has a plan of expanding the gaming area to 200 tables as soon as it comes in operation.
The opening of Deltin Casino in Daman will add to the potential of gaming industry of India. With a projected 43.4% share of Asia Pacific region in gaming industry worldwide, India too can aim for a larger pie.
