This week the GPI Rankings Top 10 comprises the same players but the positions have been shuffled. The key move has been made by German poker pro Ole Schemion (GPI#2, +7) as he turned the corners everywhere on the GPI rankings, including the Player of the Year race, where he now ranks in second position, only a few hundred points behind Daniel Colman (GPI#18), the strongest unbeatable man of 2014.
Since late August, Dan Smith has held the top spot for 15 consecutive weeks in the GPI World Poker Rankings. Currently, he is a strongest contender to end the season at #1, but few of his December 2013 scores may lose value later this month, including his victory last December at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic.
Former World #1 Ole Schemion (GPI#2, +7) is one man who is racing fast to stop Smith from winning the title of Player of the Year. Thanks to a pair of final table appearances at the Master Classics of Poker in Amsterdam, that helped Schemion bounce back and saved him from falling out of the Top 10 for the first time in 17 months. The Canadian duo Jonathan Duhamel (GPI#11, =) and Sorel Mizzi (GPI#12, =) hold the 11th and 12th positions once again this week, and are looking ahead at make their entry into the Top 10.
On every Thursday, GPI (Global Poker Index) releases a list of top 300 Poker tournament players. To dwell this list of top Poker performers of the World, GPI maintains a Poker Index point system and uses special formula. Through this leader-board, GPI as well announces Player of the Year.
US pro Maurice Hawkins (GPI#213, +80) has made his move away from the GPI300 danger zone to safe zone. Thanks to his recent win at WPT Montreal where Hawkins finished at 13th position collecting a 14th cash in 2014. Faraz Jaka (GPI#77, +61), who moves up over 60 spots this week, is one of the six players returning for final table play at the Seminole Hard Rock Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open in Hollywood, Florida. Those points will help him strengthen his spot inside the Top 50 at the end of 2014 poker season.
2009 EPT Kiev runner-up Alexander Dovzhenko (GPI#297, -94) is just four spots away from slipping out of the GPI300 for the very first time. The former World #14 has been ranked inside the Top 300 every week since the GPI’s first rankings were released in June of 2011. Other poker pros who are in danger zone are Chad Eveslage (GPI#293, -64), Josh Arieh (GPI#281, -61) and David Diaz (GPI#272, -48).
