Biography

Vanessa Selbst is a popular poker player from USA. She has earned the accolade of being the top earning female player in poker tournaments having won more than USD 7 Million through her Poker career. From Brooklyn in New York, Vanessa started out playing poker with some friends. She soon transitioned to the online world playing No Limits Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha games.

In 2006, she made it to her first WSOP final table and capped the 7th position in a No Limit Hold’em event. From 2007 she has been a regular in the live poker scene winning two bracelets at the WSOP and cashes at several other major tournaments like the World Poker Tour where she consistently made the cashes or final tables in tournaments through the years from 2008. She was also popular at tournaments such as the European Poker Tour, North American Poker Tour and some smaller events like the Partouche Poker Tour where she won USD 1.82 Million in 2010.

Selbst has been a regular winner and in fact has managed to earn more than a million dollars through two consecutive years in 2010 and 2011. In addition, she returned to the NAPT Mohegan Sun event in 2011, winning it to become the first player to win the same Pokerstars live event in two consecutive years. She added a second WSOP bracelet to her kitty in 2012 making herself a rare commodity among female players; one of very few female players to have won multiple bracelets in the same open event. The PCS High Roller victory of USD 1.4 Million in January 2013 led her to breaking the highest earning female poker player barrier.

Interestingly, amidst her rapidly growing poker career, Vanessa managed to take time off to go to college and even graduated with a degree in Law from Yale Law School in 2012. Vanessa intends to utilise her Law education in the future towards fighting for social causes such as Racial Justice and abuse of Authority by Government and its divisions such as the Police.
