The World Series of Poker(WSOP) had kicked off the inaugural Asia Pacific leg in Melbourne with a brand new event in the $1,100 No Limit Hold’em Accumulator. This new event has seen an unprecedented response and many popular poker players went grinding at it. Accumulator has now come down to the wire with nine players reaching the final table yesterday.

Bryan Piccioli led the way in the final table after he defeated Australian Ash Gupta in 10th place. Piccioli holds 790,000 chips while Jonathan Duhamel, 2010 WSOP Main Event Champion was also in the hunt with 537,000 chips. Junzhong Loo was close behind with 525,000 chips while the rest of the field looked short stacked.

What is the Accumulator Event?

The Accumulator Event is a new concept devised by Crown Poker Room Tournament Director Christian Vaughan and saw more than a thousand entrants. The fast paced event is a kind of re-buy poker tournament where in poker players are required to accumulate chips in each of the 3 flights of Day 1 and then carry that stack to Day 2.

The amassing of chips feature gives a slight advantage to the poker pros and has also seen a debate among poker players about whether this event should be a WSOP Bracelet event or no. Many poker players are of the opinion that since this resembles more of a re-buy tournament thus it shouldn’t be a bracelet event since WSOP had stopped awarding bracelets for re-buy tournaments in 2009. Various poker pros are formulating different poker strategies for the Accumulator event and the result of the same will be seen today.
