Former Brazilian Footballer Ronaldo is the latest sportsperson to join Team PokerStars, the online poker site announced here today. He becomes a member of Team PokerStars SportsStars and joins an elite line-up including Rafael Nadal, Boris Becker and Fatima Moreira De Melo. 

The former Football prodigy has played in 98 matches for his team Brazil and scored 62 goals. He also holds the distinction of being the highest goal scorer in a World Cup having scored 15 goals as part of the winning Brazilian football team in 2002.

Ronaldo quit football in 2011 and started a sports and entertainment agency called 9ine. Andre Akkari, a member of Team PokerStars was signed by 9ine to manage his branding, endorsements etc. This marked Ronaldo’s foray into the poker world and since thus the Brazilian poker scene has also got a boost.

The Brazilian Series of Poker(BSOP) now attracts around 1500 poker players as against 400 before Akkari started making appearances through 9ine. PokerStars has also become an official sponsor for the same and this new signing will ensure that Ronaldo plays a key role in the next edition of BSOP.
