Marvin Rettenmaier who was overthrown from the number 3 spot in the Global Poker Index( GPI) Rankings two weeks back regained form to displace Joseph Cheong and reach the No 2 rank. The latest GPI rankings continue to be dominated by Jason Mercier as his reign at the top is stretched by over a month.
GPI each week releases list of the top 300 tournament poker players based on their own formula which takes into account a players performance over a six monthly period. In a similar manner, the top players of the year are also ranked keeping in mind two sets of six months span. Others who gained in the top 10 of the GPI rankings this week include Philip Gruissem who had falled from second spot to seventh a fortnight back. He now sits at sixth place.
Those who fell in the GPI Rankings Top 10 positions include Joseph Cheong; from 2nd to 3rd and Daniel Negreanu from 3rd to 7th place. The GPI Top 10 rankings now are dominated by Germans, Americans and Canadians who make up 8 out of the 10 opening spots.
There was no change in the Player of the Year 2013 rankings with Paul Vople at the top and Michael Watson close behind.
