GPI Rankings: Daniel Negreanu is back on Top

Daniel NegreanuDaniel Negreanu is back in the GPI Rankings on the position he is most comfortable with. After spending five weeks behind Ole Schemion, he is back to the Number One position for the first time in 2014. In the latest GPI 300 and 2014 GPI Player of the Year(POY) Rankings released by the Global Poker Index(GPI), Negreanu and Jason Mercier have leapt upwards thanks to good outings at the Aussie Millions.

Each week, the Global Poker Index (GPI) releases a list of the top 300 tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes a player’s results over six half-year periods. The GPI also ranks the top performers of the year over two six-month periods. The GPI rankings released every Thursday rank the top 300 players as well maintain a Player of the Year Leader board also.

While Negreanu has displaced Schemion, Mercier re-entered the Top 10 to place himself on the Number 5 position. Another player who has re-entered the top 10 ranks is Erik Seidel who is now at #9. Mike McDonald has also climbed up two spots to better his last week’s rank to #7. The only female poker player in the GPI 300 Top 10, Vanessa Selbst has dropped two places to be at #8. Another player dropping pace is Ravi Raghavan who is now on the threshold with a #10 finish. Amidst all these changes, only two top 10 players held ground in the GPI300 with Marvin Rettenmaier and Dan Smith holding ground at #3 and #4 respectively.

Others who banked on their good showing in the 2014 Aussie Millions to swim upwards in the GPI Rankings include Liv Boeree(#137), Darren Rabinowitz(#134) and Main Event Champ Ami Barer(#115). The unfortunate ones who found themselves slipping include ‘The Grinder’ Michael Mizrachi(down 57 spots to be at #193) and 2013 EPT Deauville High Roller Champion Vojtech Ruzicka(down 79 spots to be at #297).
