Josh Redhouse kept chipping up and finally managed to lift the 2014 ANZPT Sydney Main Event Title defeating Peco Stojanovski. It was a short heads up battle post a deal between the final 4 players, Redhouse pocketed $133,360 and the ANZPT trophy. Stojanovski who led the FT in parts couldn’t do much when heads up started and had a major chip disadvantage to finish in second place and get $155,000. Since the players neck to neck when the deal was struck, Stojanovski did end up with a good amount for his second place finish.

The Sydney leg of the Season six of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour(ANZPT) had seen an intense battle in the FT with Jazz Mathers in lead. Jazz had lead the tourney in parts and started in front today as the 9 players got down to play till the finals. But it was a quick play down to the final five players from where the action slowed down. Mathers finished in 4th place though he had managed a healthy lead when the FT began by eliminating Brent Taunton(9th place) and Milan Gurung(8th place).

Nathan Sawyers(7th place) and Oliver Gill(6th place) were next to go and Peco had managed a healthy lead by then. But it was the fifth place finish of Rory Young when Peco started bleeding and Redhouse started gaining. After Mathers exit when he went all in preflop for 420,000 chips with {k-Spades}{10-Spades} , Redhouse gained control. Mathers came up against Steven Zhou who held  {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}. It was an encouraging flop with  {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}  but the complete board didn’t give enough for Mathers to survive.

After some intense poker play in Level 27, Zhou struck some unfortunate times and dramatically exit when he went all in with his  final chips preflop with {A-Spades}{J-Hearts} against Peco Stojanovski’s {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. Zhou was looking good to survive and double up but the board ran out {q-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. The chips were then cut down and the two were pretty close in chips and since Zhou’s 1.65 million was covered by Stojanovksi’s 1.8 million thus Zhou left in third place for post-deal $120,000.

Congratulations to Josh Redhouse who reigned the ANZPT Sydney event at the Star Casino leaving a field of 458 poker players behind. The 27 year old local player marks his first major tournament cash.
