GPI:Ole Schemion still #1; Duhamel in Top 10

After an erratic last few weeks on the Global Poker Index (GPI), this week is relatively stable for the Top 10 with the German star Ole Schemion retaining his top spot. Even after losing a few points this week, the GPI player of the month of April 2014, Ole Schemion, is still expected to enter the WSOP as the #1 player of the world.

Each week, the Global Poker Index (GPI) releases a list of the top 300 tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes a player’s results over six half-year periods. The GPI also ranks the top performers of the year over two six-month periods. The GPI rankings released every Thursday rank the top 300 players as well maintain a Player of the Year Leader board also.

At #2 and #3, holding on to their spots are Schott Seiver and Philip Gruissem. Vanessa Selbst falls down one spot at #5, which benefits Byron Kaverman who moves one spot up this week at #4. 2012 WSOP Champion Jonathan Duhamel climbs back 3 spots to Top 10 this week at #10. On the other hand, another Canadian, Mike McDonald drops 7 spots to #16.

An impressive player in the 2014 season is Ronit Chamani who has overall moved 800 spots and adding 1,300 GPI points. This week, Chamani has moved 69 spots to land at #130. Another player who has done well this season is Blair Hinkle who has climbed 56 spots to #240. Hinkle takes the prize at the Semirole Hard Rock Poker Open and WSOP Circuit Iowa Main Event ( for the second time).

Former GPI Top 10 player Ignor Kurganov falls 41 spots this week ranking at #141. The Russian star Kurganov after rising #100 last week falls down again and he will need to work hard in WSOP to make his way back to the elite group. Dutch pro Forens Feenstra and Aussie star Daniel Neilson fall 53 and 46 spots this week respectively. Fennstra ranks #262 and Neilson #269.
