GPI Rankings: Schemion retains his #1 position

The 2013 GPI Player of the Year, Ole Schemion (GPI#1, =) re-enters February as the #1 player in the GPI World Poker Rankings for the consecutive second year. Following his recent runner-up finish in the $100K Challenge at the Aussie Millions in Melbourne, Schemion reached the highest point mark of his career this week: 4,244.03.

A 3rd place finish of Scott Seiver (GPI#2, +6) in the 100K Challenge saw him moving past Pratyush Buddiga (GPI#3, -1) and Bryn Kenney (GPI#4, -1) to hold second position. Jason Mercier (GPI#5, =) and Jonathan Duhamel (GPI#10, =) were the other three players who sticked to their previous position in the Top 10. This week Dan Smith (GPI#9, -3) former World #1 falls three spots to #9. Following his deep run at the Aussie Millions and entry of his 2014 win into a third aging period, Ami Barer (GPI#7, +2) dropped two spots low in GPI Top 10. His ran made another deep run at the Aussie Millions.

On every Thursday, GPI (Global Poker Index) releases a list of top 300 Poker tournament players. To dwell this list of top Poker performers of the World, GPI maintains a Poker Index point system and uses special formula. Through this leader-board, GPI as well announces Player of the Year.

Thanks to his pair of scores at the Aussie Millions, including a 17th finish in the Main Event, Austrian pro Gerald Karlic (GPI#176 CB, +99) moved close to 100 spots up to his career-best #176. This big jump makes him the top riser of the week. Another high-profile move was made by former World #1 Erik Seidel (GPI#40, +55). Three years back in February 2012, Seidel who ruled atop the World Poker Rankings reentered the Top 50 for the very first time in 2015.

The past few months have been a roller coaster ride inside the GPI300 for Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree (GPI#255, -65). Her rankings in GPI300 have been swinging up and down since December 2014. Four weeks ago, Boeree was ranked as high as #176 in the world but now she is in the 300 danger zone.

Three-time GPI National Ireland Player of the Year Dermot Blain (GPI#271, -32) had an unusual fall inside the 300. Since September 2014, the 2009 APPT Macau winner hasn’t cashed on the live tournament circuit.
