GPI Rankings: Schemion matches the record with Mercier and Smith

GPIOle Schemion (GPI#1, =) reigns at the top completes #17 weeks in the GPI Rankings, and now he has joined Jason Mercier (GPI#7, -1) and Dan Smith (GPI#22, +1) as the three players to have spent the most consecutive weeks at the top of the GPI. Schemion who has been on the top since Christmas Eve, is just 7 days away from becoming the first ever poker player to be ranked at the top for 18 weeks in a row.

On every Thursday, GPI (Global Poker Index) releases a list of top 300 Poker tournament players. To dwell this list of top Poker performers of the World, GPI maintains a Poker Index point system and uses special formula. Through this leader-board, GPI as well announces Player of the Year.

This week the three-time WSOP bracelet winner Davidi Kitai (GPI#2 CB, +1) moved one spot up, and now stands second from the top. Schemion is the only player to stand in the way of Belgian star’s bid to reach his goal of #1 on the GPI World Poker Rankings. Correspondingly, former World #2 Bryn Kenney (GPI#6, +1) moved up one spot. This season the American pro has already collected over $1 million in winnings this season, and that too for the third time in his career. As there were movements between the members in Top 10, so no new players have dropped or entered at any point so far this month.

Michael Wang (GPI#159, +68) continues to rise inside the World Poker Rankings, thanks to Wang’s third place finish at the PaddyPower Irish Open. Wang, who was ranked outside the GPI300 in the beginning of 2015, has moved up over 260 spots to a career-best #159. In addition to this, he moved into the Top 25 in the 2015 GPI Poker Player of the Year race after his deep run in Dublin.

“Professional Best Friend” Jeff Gross (GPI#278, -56) had a biggest fall inside the GPI300 this week. Gross, who returned to the GPI300 earlier this year, may soon drop out of the elite group, and accompanying him will be 13-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth (GPI#258, -49), who also finds himself in the danger zone.
