GPI Rankings: Seiver continues his Reign; WSOP and GPI join hands for POY

GPI rankingThis week was a quiet week inside GPI 300. Scott Seiver (GPI#1, =) is spending his fourth week at the top of the Global Poker Index World Poker Rankings. Seiver retained his #1 position even though the 46th World Series of Poker kicked off in Las Vegas.

On every Thursday, GPI (Global Poker Index) releases a list of top 300 Poker tournament players. To dwell this list of top Poker performers of the World, GPI maintains a Poker Index point system and uses special formula. Through this leader-board, GPI as well announces Player of the Year.

The GPI Top 10 saw few changes in the position in the bottom half. A pair of poker pros- Sorel Mizzi (GPI#8, +1) and Pratyush Buddiga (GPI#9, +1) move up one spot in the GPI rankings. Thanks to Mizzi’s recent 10th place finish at WPT Amsterdam.

Eddy Sabat (GPI#108, +74) reaches his best ranking of the 2015 poker season at #108 after a win at the California State Poker Championship. The great Phil Hellmuth (GPI#380) drop out of the GPI300 for the first time in just under a year. His rankings fall because his last November 2014 victory at the Pittsburgh Poker Open entered a second aging period.

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has recently entered into an agreement with Global Poker Index (GPI) to tabulate, power and sponsor the prestigious WSOP Player of the Year Award. Following this agreement, the winner of this prestigious title will be called the GPI WSOP Player of the Year (POY). The winning player will receive Specially-Designed Commemorative Trophy, and will be recognized in a special ceremony during the WSOP Main Event Final Table in November. Moreover, the GPI WSOP POY will also have a permanent banner appreciating their achievement in the future WSOP events, that will be  displayed at the host venue year-after-year.

The GPI WSOP Player of the Year is set to be a year-long race to determine the most successful poker player over the course of a calendar year based on participation in 74 official WSOP gold bracelet events held during the WSOP in Las Vegas (May 27-July 14, 2015) and WSOP Europe (Oct. 8-24, 2015) in Berlin, Germany.

According to this new, multi-year agreement, marketing initiatives for the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas and WSOP Europe will include exclusive editorial content on WSOP.com and content within the WSOP final table live stream. The agreement further includes several other initiatives including a commitment from the Global Poker Index to invest and dedicate resources in order to create innovative and ground-breaking content in order to promote joint objectives, and even plans for a GPI WSOP Player Party during the 2015 WSOP. In addition to this, Fantasy Poker Manager is making a return for the 2015 WSOP and WSOP Europe, and a content-sharing expansion includes exclusive GPI statistics housed on WSOP.com providing more detailed data on player results including success by game type.
