2017 Aussie Millions Recap: Robert Raymond, James Chen, Thomas Muhlocker, Serge Osalan, Niall Murray & Thomas Boivin Emerge Champions

Australia’s biggest live poker tournament, the Aussie Millions for 2017 started on Wednesday 11 January and will continue through Monday 30 January 2017 at Crown Melbourne, Australia. Starting with its AUD$1,025 No Limit Holdem, an opening event last week, the poker festival continues to draw a big crowd of poker players from across the world. After 10 days of action, the festival has found several champions. Here is a look at the big winners from the various events of the 2017 Aussie Millions:

Event 1 – Melbourne’s Robert Raymond Wins AUD$1,025 NLH for AUD$320,830

The first event of the 2017 Aussie Millions had a huge field. It was local pro Robert Raymond who eventually defeated the massive field and earned the Event 1 title and the first place prize AUD$320,830 . He bested a field which had a total of 1,565 entries up from the 1,320 entries last year. In this tournament, 153 top finishers cashed from the huge prize pool of AUD$1,604,125.

 Event 2: Taiwan’s James Chen Claims $2,500 H.O.R.S.E.

On day 3 of the 2017 Aussie Millions Poker Championship, Taiwan’s James Chen made waves by winning the first championship ring of the series, taking down the $2,500 H.O.R.S.E. and taking home the first place prize of AUD$39,700 for his efforts. The tournament drew 49 players. James Chen played very smartly and outlasted the entire field to win the first championship ring of the series. Event 3-Austria’s Thomas Muhlocker Wins NLH Shot Clock Shootout for AUD$40,125

Austria’s Thomas Muhlocker took down the Shot Clock Shootout for AUD$40,125. The event featured an AUD$1,150 buy-in and was a fast-paced shootout format. Muhlocker defeated the entire field of 153 players and Henry Szmelcer in heads-up play to win the title. Szmelcer finished as a runner-up for  AUD$26,775. Muhlocker has USD$2.9 million in lifetime tournament earnings and leads all-time money list of Austria. He has five Aussie Millions cashes to his name and this was his first victory.Thomas_muhlocker

Event 4-Australia’s Serge Osalan Wins Pot Limit Omaha for AUD$58,315

In the fourth event, it was Australia’s Serge Osalan who shined and became the second local player to be crowned a champion in 2017 poker festival after taking down the fourth event of the series for AUD$58,315. The AUD$1,150 buy-in event was the first of four pot-limit Omaha events on the schedule and drew a total of 237 entries. Osalan outlasted the entire field to earn AUD$58,315.Serge_Osalan

Event 5- UK’s Niall Murray Wins AUD$1,150 NLH Mix Max

E Niall Murray triumphed in the event 5 no-limit hold’em Mix Max tournament earning AUD$61,300 payout and his first championship ring. Murray, who hails from London in the U.K., defeated a tough field of 230 runners taking down the title and his first championship ring for AUD$61,300.UK`s Niall Murray defeated his fellow Jack Salter in heads-up match who finished in 2nd place for AUD$40,085.Niall Murray

Event 6- Thomas Boivin Beats Huge Field to Win AUD$117,950

Belgian poker pro- Thomas Boivin won the AUD$1,150 six-max event for AUD$117,950 at the 2017 Aussie Millions. The event drew 516 players and created a prize pool of AUD$528,900. Finally, Boivin emerged as the winner and took home the top prize AUD$117,950 for his efforts. It was his second cash in the series, as he also finished 8th in the AUD$1,150 Shot Clock and won AUD$5,995.Thomas_Boivin
