American poker pro – Nick Petrangelo has now taken down the World Series of Poker (WSOP) $100,000 buy-in NLH event, defeating a tough field of 105 entries to secure his 2nd WSOP bracelet and the top prize of $2,910,227. The 31-year-old from Massachusetts previously won the 2015 $3,000 NLH Shootout for $201,812. With this win, his live earnings reach over to $14.5 million.
Petrangelo came into this event fresh after his recent sixth-place finish in the $300,000 buy-in Super High Roller Bowl for $900,000. He survived the final day as the chip leader. However, the win for him was not easy as the final table was star-studded and it included the likes of Adrian Mateos (8th – $295,066), Jason Koon (7th – $372,894), Stephen Chidwick (6th – $484,551) and Bryn Kenney (5th – $646,927). Also, there was the German star Fedor Holz, who is sixth on the all-time money list with $26,987,103 in earnings. He eventually went out in 9th place for an impressive $240,265.
After Andreas Eiler and Aymon Hata leaving in fourth and third places, it was heads-up between Petrangelo and Elio Fox. The former began with a 3-to-1 chip advantage, but Fox was able to make a comeback and take a slight lead just after six hands. However, Fox couldn’t hold the lead as Petrangelo took the lead again when his Jd-3d beat Fox’s pocket fives. A few hands later, Petrangelo finished off Fox. The former held Q-8 and the latter had 5-2. The board ran 2- A- A-8-3.
Nauv Kashyap Wins Inaugural WPT New Zealand Main Event
Nauv Kashyap topped a record 360 field to win the inaugural WPT New Zealand Main Event for NZ$169,200. Held at SkyCity Auckland, it was the largest main event in New Zealand history.
“Obviously I ran very well at the final table, so I’m very happy with the way it came out, but you have to take the luck when it comes,” Kashyap, an Australian poker player, said post his grand win.
Kashyap entered final table as the chip lead, but he faced some tough competition.
The final table began with Nic Southorn scoring a double up before Eden Smith was the first player to fall in ninth place. Daniel Neilson then went out in eighth place. Later, Southorn was all in and he couldn’t survive. He was eliminated in seventh place. Metin’s luck went out in sixth place.
After Inns going out in 5th, Li in 4th place and Jiang in 3rd place, it was heads-up between Kashyap and Efaraimo. The dual began with Kashyap holding massive stack with 7.9 million over the 1.1 million of Efaraimo. It didn’t last long and a few hands later Efaraimo was all-in pre-flop with Ad-8d and Kashyap had him covered with 8c-8h. The board ran Qc-4c-3d-7h-3c to give Kashyap the title.
