Rising Star Devesh Thapar Shares His Excitement,Plans & Preparations For DPT July Starting Tomorrow

Born and brought up in Delhi, Devesh Thapar is a rising star on India’s poker landscape. The 23-year-old Thapar`s tryst with poker began when he was in class 11th and since then he is crazily in love with the game. Playing poker for over 6 years now, he has earned a big name for himself, be it home games, live or online tournaments. This year in May, he grabbed big headlines for shipping the VND 4,000,000 KO Bounty at the APL Series in Vietnam for VND 94,164,000 (INR 2.77 Lac) and winning his first-ever international title. This month too, he was in the big news for finishing 13th at the APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh Main Event for a hefty VND 115.41 Million (INR 3.40 Lac) in prize money.

Having notched up several big scores recently, Thapar is now excited to compete at DPT July, which features the 1 Crore GTD Main Event along with several other exciting events – 15K Deep Dive NLH, 65K High Roller, and the final event – 15K Bounty Event aimed at the bounty lovers in India. While Thapar will be playing the whole series, his eyes are on the Main Event. He aims to ship it this DPT.

“Boom! DPT is like my all time favourite. Though I haven’t had big scores, but yeah it is one of the most prestigious events in India. It’s fun as we meet other friends from different parts, plus some good poker around here in Goa. So this DPT, I am looking forward to winning the DPT Main Event Trophy.”

When asked about plans and preparations for the DPT July 2018 edition, Thapar said, “Well, I’ll be playing the whole DPT series, along with the High Roller and Main Event. So far preparations for the prestigious event, I am studying some stuff about live poker from books to further improve my game.”

Answering to the question – ‘who is your favourite to win DPT July Main Event & High Roller?’ he said, “Yeah, me for the Main Event and Nishant Sharma (who recorded the best Indian finish at this year’s WSOP Main Event) is for the High Roller. Amit Jain is also one of my favourites to win the HR or ME event.”

Thapar concluded his conversation with a good message for all the players looking forward to the DPT July. He said, “DPT is the prestigious event. Play for the glory and it shall follow you. I mean, keep working hard and play for the up-top prizes and you’ll get there with your belief and gameplay.”

We thank Thapar for speaking to us and wish him good luck for the DPT July starting tomorrow!
