Gordon Wilcox has won the 2018 World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Main Event, outlasting a strong field of 519 runners to win the top prize of $169,052 along with his maiden WSOP gold ring.
With this win in the $1,700 Main Event, the 60-year old poker pro from Boston has added an impressive $169,052 in prize money to his live tournament earnings. That is not all, he has also earned entry into the 2018-19 Global Casino Championship featuring a $1,000,000 GTD prize pool.
“I feel happy. I guess I feel relieved, honestly. These guys ran a great tournament, they always do here at Foxwoods. I have been playing here since day one, my players card starts with a zero. I have been coming here for 26 years. I played with a lot of big name players on their way up in the poker world.” said, Wilcox.
Wilcox had to defeat a very tough field to win the title. Moving into the final table, he eliminated several players, including Manny Okrah in 6th palce whose Ac 8h were beaten by Wilcox’s Kd Qh. In the very next hand, he faced his most difficult challenger Dylan Wilkerson and eliminated him in 5th place. Wilkerson was very aggressive and had already eliminated two players from the final table.
During the three-handed play, Wilcox knocked out Giuliano Lentini whose As 10c lost to Wilcox’s Ks Qh on the board reading 9c 7d 3c Kh Kc. After Lentini going in third place, it was heads-up where the final hand saw Jason Bolton moving all-in with Ah 6d for 2 million and Wilcox called with Ac 9d. The board ran out Kh 9h 8d 7c 3d. Although the turn gave Bolton some hope, the river bricked out.
A total prize pool of $786,000 was created and it was distributed among the top 54 finishers. Some notables who finished in the money were Nicholas Pupillo (14th for $10,378), Mark Perry (24th for $6,133), Brock Wilson (26th for $5,268), former WSOPC Foxwoods Main Event champion Samuel Taylor (32nd for $4,088), Lowell Kim (34th for $3,616), and Stephen Song (52nd for $2,987).
