Heads-Up With Engineering Student Neel Joshi Who Won Last Night’s Godfather 5.0

Yesterday, Adda52 hosted its popular weekly tourney – Godfather 5.0, which currently guarantees INR 20 Lac GTD prizepoool for a buy-in of INR 5,500 and promises the winner a ticket to 7 Lac Aussie SNG. The  event drew 443 entries in total to create INR 22,15,000 prize pool. Outlasting the field was a final year chemical engineering student of BITS Pilani – Neel Joshi aka ‘neeljoshi23’, who started playing low stakes live cash games in his 2nd year and immediately fell in love with the game. He switched to MTTs just about 5-6 months ago, and the journey has been highly rewarding so far.

On his way to the grand victory in this tournament, Joshi beat a tough final table that included some good regs in Laksh Singh (2nd for INR 3,65,475), Rajat Sharma (3rd for INR 276875), Siddharth Karia (4th for INR 2,15,963) and Deepak Raina who ended his journey in 6th place for INR 1,16,288.

As mentioned, the tournament guaranteed INR 20 Lac GTD prizepool, which was shared by the top 27 finishers with a min-cash of INR 13,290. The lion’s share went to the eventual winner – Joshi, who walked away with an impressive INR 5,75,900 for his victory in the tourney. With this win, Joshi became the final entrant into 7 Lac Aussie Finale SNG to be played on 28th Oct’18 on adda52.com.

This win in Godfather 5.0 was Joshi’s biggest online score on adda52.com. Before this, his biggest score was INR 1,83,000, which he got by finishing 3rd in PayCheck in July 2018. Overall, it has been a rewarding journey for the player as he has been cashing out across several popular online events on adda52.com. Recently, he cashed in Adda52 Millions, Godfather, Whale and Gayle Storm 2.0.

We caught up with Joshi to know about his win, journey and future plans. Here are the excerpts:

OPN – Hi Joshi, a big congratulation! How does it feel to win Godfather 5.0?

Joshi – Thanks a lot! It was definitely a wonderful experience. I played my heart out, and I’m stoked to have shipped it. And yes, this was my biggest score on Adda52.

OPN – How tough was the field? Could you explain your tournament journey?

Joshi – The field was decent. The final table had many regs. I was being aggressive and it paid off on the final table. I ran well in a couple of spots, winning a few crucial flips.

OPN – The final table had some tough regs like Laksh Pal Singh, Rajat Sharma, Siddharth Karia and Deepak Raina. Please share your final table journey with us.

Joshi – The final table was pretty good. Average stack depth was 35 BB or so, so it wasn’t too shallow, and there was enough room to maneuver. The FT was pretty standard. I got a couple of beats during the heads-up play but was able to bounce back and take it down.

OPN – You beat ‘BoomTilt23’ in heads-up. Could you describe heads-up gameplay?

Joshi – We started off with almost equal stacks. He was playing well, and he ran good as well. I was relentless in my aggression. The chip lead swung back and forth about a couple of times, but his stack dwindled slowly, and finally he jammed his KJo and I called with KQo and held.

OPN – What are your plans in online and live? What about WPT India next month?

Joshi –  I’m a final year engineering student, currently interning in a research laboratory. In the coming months, I have exams and a lot of such stuff to do, so unfortunately I won’t be able to make it to WPT India (taking place from 13th-19th November 2018 at Deltin Royale, Goa).
