World Poker Tour (WPT) is conducting its $3 Million GTD WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open (WPO) Championship in the famous Borgata Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The event has already reached 1,204, slightly short of the WPT Borgata record of 1,313 entries, set at the Season X WPT Borgata Poker Open. The prizepool is already over $3.8 million and it should easily cross the $4 million mark, as the late registration is on till the first two levels of Day 2, which is taking place today.
While Day 1A of the event had attracted only 421 entries, Day 1B went on to draw 783 entries making the total count reach 1,204. Day 1B saw several top pros, including India’s talented pro Aditya Agarwal, who survived and entered Day 2 of the event with a workable stack of 89,600.
Agarwal holds a total of $1,035,124 in live earnings till date. His best finish at the event was in 2014 when he finished 35th in the WPT Borgata Championship Re-Entry for $15,109. If he wins the ongoing tournament, he will earn a whopping 1st place prize from $3.8 million prize pool till now.
Day 1B ended with 446 left for Day 2 out of the 783 runners. Joey Couden emerged as the chip leader with 321,600 chips. Couden, who hails from Ohio, US, holds more than $2 million in live cash earnings, with over $323,000 of it coming from WPT events. He had finished 4th at the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown last season, taking home $251,523. He is followed in chips by Michael Smith (254,000), Alex Aqel (246,700) and Ness Reilly (194,500) on the Day 1B leaderboard.
Couden leads a total of 665 survivors (219 from Day 1A and 446 from Day 1B), which means he is the overall chip leader moving into Day 2 of the event, which is beginning today at 12:00 noon.
Talking about his Day 1B run at the ongoing WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open (WPO) Championship, he said, “I feel like I did my job today. I had a lot of big hands. I had kings like six or seven times. I made probably a dozen flushes.” As for Day 2, “I’m just going to try and take what comes to me.”
Other notables to make Day 2 from Day 1B are Ness Reilly (194,500), Eric Siegel (193,000), WSOP Main Event champion Joe McKeehen (126,800), Curt Kohlberg (119,000), and WPT Champions Club member Bobby Oboodi (142,200), Victor Ramdin (42,000) and Phil Laak (35,000) to name a few.
