Sergio Aido Wins 2019 EPT Monte Carlo €100,000 Super High Roller For €1,589,190

The 2019 European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo €100,000 buy-in NLH super high roller has wrapped up. Spanish pro Sergio Aido has won it to claim the title and €1,589,190 ($1,772,393) in top prize. Aido beat a field of 52 entries and his fellow Spaniard Jesus Cortes in the heads-up play.

This win in the super high roller was the largest score of Aido’s career and it took his lifetime earnings grew to more than $10.3 million, making him the third highest earning Spanish-born poker player behind only Adrian Mateos ($17.4 million) and Carlos Mortensen ($11.9 million).

Aido entered the final day as a short stack, with 9 players remaining and only 7 of them set to cash in the tournament. When play began, Aido had just 7 big blinds but he managed to outlast the short stack Luc Greenwood and then doubled up twice to climb into the middle of the pack.

Koray Aldemir exited as bubble boy, losing with 9h 9s against Ah Kd of Daniel Dvoress. Aido continued his momentum by scoring the first two eliminations in the money, taking out Wiktor Malinowski (7th) and Charlie Carrel (6th). The next player to fall was the short stack Mikita Badziakouski and he was eliminated by Jesus Cortes in 5th place. Later, Daniel Dvoress shoved all-in for 15 big blinds with Ad 9h. Aido called with Kh Ks. Aido flopped quads to eliminate Dvoress in fourth-place. Aido then scored another elimination with pocket kings. Sam Greenwood holding Ah 10s four-bet all-in and Aido called. The kings held up and Greenwood exited in third place.

Jesus Cortes entered the heads-up with a sizable chip disadvantage and the heads-up did not last long. It was all-over when Aido limped in for 120,000 and Cortes moved all-in for around 15 big blinds with 9s 2d. Aido called with Kc Qh. The board ran out As Jc 8d Js 5s where Aido’s king high won him the pot and the coveted title. Cortes earned €1,147,750 as the second-place finisher.
