APT Vietnam: Ashish Munot Makes FT Of Championships Event; Laksh Pal Singh Finishes 16th

The Asian Poker Tour (APT) Vietnam VND 6 Billion GTD Championships Event drew 192 entries, easily smashing the VND 6 Billion guarantee and generating VND 6,518,400,000 in prizepool. The top 20 players were guaranteed to profit, with a VND 1,655,320,000 reserved for the eventual champion.

July 13 saw Day 3 of the event with a total of 24 returning to battle it out for VND 1,655,320,000 (INR 49 Lac). The day began at level 17 with 4000/ 8000 blinds and Filipino pro Vamerdino Magsakay (718,000) had the chip lead. Money bubble burst in the very next level when China’s Chen Dajza got busted by Joseph Talamayan. There were 3 Indians in the running, namely Ashish Munot (328,000 ), Laksh Pal Singh (243,000) and Sumit Sapra (305,000 ). While Sapra exited before the bubble, Laksh Pal Singh ran deeper and finished close to FT in 16th for VND 83,160,000. Pal had pocket Aces against pocket threes of Lim Chor Heng but the latter flopped a set to bust Pal from the tournament.

Thereafter, eliminations continued until level 22 that saw Tran Huy Hoang exit in 9th place for VND 172,440,000. Following the 9th place elimination, play for the day was halted. Filipino pro Joseph Talamayan (3,715,000) emerged as the chip leader and will lead the final 8 today. Munot was the only Indian to make FT in the event and he bagged the 3rd largest stack with 1,041,000. He stacked up to nearly 1 million during level 21 when his pocket queens bested AK of Vamerdino Magsakay.

Known for his exploits on the online felts, Chennai player Munot has been working hard on his Live game and it is showing in his results over the last one year. He has consistently been making deep runs in domestic tournaments like DPT and WPT India and is now well-poised to win the APT Championships Event title. We congratulate and wish him good luck for the final day of the event!

A total of 6 Indian players had made it to Day 2 among the 74 survivors from the two flights. Three Indians – Manoj Pentakota, Vaibhav Sharma and Manish Lakhotia couldn’t carry their stack to Day 3.
