Poker Ranking Update August 2019: Abhinav Iyer Keeps The Lead In GPI India Rankings

The young gun Abhinav Iyer continues to top the chart for a consecutive second month in the GPI India rankings. Iyer started the year 2019 on a strong note by winning APT Vietnam Main Event for $ 98,055 and then went on to make several deep runs across other international events. He did pretty well at the 2019 WSOP as he registered as many as 7 cashes. He got worldwide media attention when he won The Closer event of the the 2019 WSOP to claim the first solo gold bracelet for India and $565,346, his career-best score that he followed with a 5th place finish in the ₱ 500k NLH Super High Roller and a 32nd place finish in the ₱ 33k NLH National at the APPT Manila in July. His amazing performances at the 2019 WSOP helped him to move to the 1st place in the GPI India rankings in July to replace Nipun Java who had been holding the top position right from the beginning of 2019.

Some Other Top Players in GPI India Rankings

Iyer is currently ranked 5th in India All Time Money List with $839,483 in total live cashes. Following him in GPI India rankings is none other than the two-time WSOP bracelet winner Nipun Java holding 1,608.53 points. Java’s biggest score from this year came recently when he finished 11th for $28,445 in the WPT Gardens Festival Main Event, which helped him to earn 213.41 GPI points.

Java is followed by WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant holding 3rd place with 1,568.71 GPI points. Sushant notched up 7 cashes from the 2019 WSOP with his biggest score coming from $1,000 NLH (Event #28) where he finished 13th for $17,409. The Chennai pro ended his Vegas trip by winning $600 NLH Survivor (Event #121) at DeepStack Championship Poker Series to earn $5,200, which was followed by $ 4,635 for his 8th place finish the $2,200 NLH 8-Handed (Event #18) at the WPT Gardens Poker Festival and ₱ 232,000 for a 3rd place finish in the APPT Manila Mega Stack.

Ankit Ahuja has moved up to 4th place this month replacing Kalyan Chakravarthy who held 4th position last month. Ahuja has been in great form over the last months. The talented pro recently won the MonsterStack at the DeepStack Championship Poker Series in Las Vegas to claim his biggest live score of $ 330,134 and then followed that with a $ 18,535 for his 822nd place finish in the WSOP 2019 Main Event. These two big scores coming from his Vegas trip not only helped him to take his live earnings to $587,763 but also enabled him to earn enough GPI points to improve his GPI rank.

Kalyan Chakravarthy who held 4th place last month has slipped to 5th rank this month with 1,320.55 GPI points. The 6th and 7th positions are held by Sulabh Choudhury and Kartik Ved who finished 51st in the 2019 WSOP Main Event to claim his career-best $173,015 and earn 293.69 GPI points. Following Ved is none other than Adda52 Team Pro Kunal Patni with 1,170.09 points.
