WPT Vietnam ME: Huynh Tan Dung Leads 156 Into Day 2; Four Indians Progress From Day 1C

The 2019 WPT Vietnam Main Event is done with its three starting flights. The third and final starting flight – Day 1C saw 130 entries with only 62 players advancing to Day 2 of the event. It was local pro Huynh Tan Dung (272,300) who emerged as the chip leader and will lead all survivors into Day 2.

Among the 62 survivors advancing to Day 2, there were 4 Indians headlined by Manish Lakhotia (135,900 chips) who had recently taken down the APT Vietnam ₫ 8,000,000 + 800,000 No Limit Hold’em Event for $ 7,215 prizemoney. The rest of the three Indians to qualify from Day 1C were Lakshpal Singh (87,300), Sumit Sapra (79,000) and Akash Chandrashekhar (29,900).

Combined with 93 from Day 1A and 121 from 1B, there are 156 players remaining in the field from the original field of 344 entries. The event has already crushed its guarantee of VN₫ 15 billion as the current prize pool amounts to VND 16.6 billion, the biggest one in Vietnamese poker.

With the late registration open until the end of Level 11 on Day 2 today, the field will continue to go up. Huynh Tan Dung (272,300) who ended last starting flight as the biggest stack will start Day 2 as the chip leader among the 156 survivors returning to the Pro Poker Club in in Ho Chi Minh City.

20 Indians Among 156 Players Advancing To Day 2

As mentioned, the Main Event featured a total of three starting flights. The first starting flight – Day 1A attracted a total of 93 entries and only 41 advanced with Christopher Mateo (272,000) leading them all. Among the survivors, there were two Indians, namely Adda52 Team Pro Kunal Patni and Gaurav Sood. Patni bagged 34,700 in chips, while Sood qualified for Day 2 with a stack of 29,900.

The second starting flight of the 2019 WPT Vietnam Main Event VND 15 billion GTD was Day 1B and it drew a total of 121 entries. The day concluded with Pham Minh Tuan (244,500) leading the 53 survivors. Following him in chips was the Korean player Lee Sang In (217,600). It turned out to be a big day for Team India. As many as 14 of our Indians progressed from this flight, namely Rubin Labroo (3rd), Alok Birewar (19th), Ashish Munot (22nd), Vaibhav Sharma (23rd), Akshay Nasa (24th), Abhinav Iyer (25th), Srihari Bang (28th), Sriharsha Doddapaneni (34th), Neeraj Kumar (37th), Jaideep Sajwan (38th), Ronak Vyas (40th), Aditya Agarwal (43rd), Sahil Agarwal (48th), and Jayjit Ray (49th).
