WPT Cambodia: Jianfeng Sun Wins Main Event Warm Up; Laksh Pal Singh Finishes Runner-Up

The inaugural World Poker Tour (WPT) Cambodia is well underway at Nagaworld in Phnom Penh. Two events of the series are already in the books. The most prominent tournament to play down to a champion yesterday was the $1,100 Main Event Warm-Up that drew a total of 95 entries. Topping the field was China’s Jianfeng Sun who earned an impressive $29,234 (INR 21.01 Lac). The runner-up spot went to India’s Laksh Pal Singh who took home $17,509 (INR 12.58 Lac) for his deep run.

Team India is off to a great start at the series, with three Indians already finishing ITM in the first tournament of the series – Kickoff Event. Adding to the team’s tally is now the young talent Laksh Pal Singh who narrowly missed out on the title, finishing 2nd in the Main Event Warm Up yesterday.

Only 20 made Day 2 with Tomaz Kogovsek leading the way with a stack of 263,500 chips. It didn’t take long to reach the money line as only 12 players were paid. The final table of the event featured players from nine different countries. Jakub Kotas (9th) from Czech Republic was the first to bust the FT. The others to follow were Tomaz Kogovsek (8th), Stig Erik Goran Billgren (7th), Didrik Andreas Mantor (6th), Siew Po Teh (5th), Muhammad Shahzad (4th), and Yao Tay from Singapore (3rd).

Finally, it came to heads-up between India and China. India’s Laksh Pal Singh led into the heads-up battle, but China’s Jianfeng Sun managed to slowly build his stack and eventually win the title. The final hand saw the short-stacked Singh move all-in pre-flop with Qh 10s against Sun’s As 8d. The board 5c 4d Js 9h Jc did not improve Singh’s hand and gave the title to the Chinese player – Sun.
