Delta Corp’s Subsidiary Gets Gaming License For Nepal Casino

India’s only listed casino and hospitality company – Delta Corp Limited announced on Thursday that its Deltin Group subsidiary has got a license to operate a casino in the Marriott resort, Nepal.

While the exact timeline is yet to be finalized, the casino operations at the Marriot Hotel in Nepal are expected to begin soon. “Further to our communication dated October 25, 2017, with reference to the Company entering into a Memorandum of Understanding for leasing space at the five star Marriot Hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal to operate a casino, we would like to inform you that our Subsidiary in Nepal has been issued a license for operating a Casino in Nepal,” the company said.

Delta Corp is by far India’s largest casino operator. The company operates three floating casinos and one land-based venue in Goa along with one casino in the state of Sikkim and a hotel in the union territory of Daman. Apart from operating several casinos in various parts of the country, Delta Corp also runs online poker and rummy businesses. The company owns India’s No. 1 Poker Site – Adda52, the online rummy platform – Adda52rummy and the online fantasy sports – LeagueAdda.

Casinos in Nepal are mainly dependent on Indian crowd as the local Nepalese residents are barred from entering casinos. The Nepal government has pledged to boost tourism through its Visit Nepal 2020 initiatives and is looking to streamline its casino regulations and policies to enable foreign investments in the sector and thereby boost tourism in the region. So, it is understood that the Nepal’s government will welcome Delta casino’s opening as it will give a boost to the tourism there.

Delta’s Corp’s arrival is also awaited by several existing casino companies like Goa’s Pride Group and Sikkim’s Mahjong Group already operating in Kathmandu, Australian Stock Exchange listed Silver Heritage Group and Sri Lanka’s Bally’s casino group, which also have casino operations in Nepal.
