Matthew Sesso Outlasts Joe McKeehen In Heads-Up To Win 2020 Potomac Winter Poker Open Main Event

The inaugural Potomac Winter Poker Open (PWPO) concluded today at the MGM National Harbor Hotel & Casino in Washington D.C. The biggest highlight was its $500K GTD $3,000 Main Event, which drew 294 entries across three starting flights. Coming out on top was the 34-year-old Matthew Sesso who took home the coveted trophy and a whopping $189,965 in top prizmoney for his victory.

Sesso defeated two-time WSOP bracelet winner Joe McKeehen in heads-up, who earned $115,698 for his efforts. Others who made it to the final table included Ulises Roman (3rd), Glenn Chernigoff (4th), Alison Leslie(5th), Jeromy Bittan (6th), David Olshan (7th), Jeff Esterling (8th) and Galen Hall (9th).

Top 30 players were paid out of $781,746 prizepool and some notables among them included Ryan Tamanini (12th for $13,681), Jimmy Chen (14th for $11,726 ), WSOP bracelet winner James Anderson (21st for $7,817), Dan Silver (22nd for $6,254), Ryan Dougherty (23rd for $6,254), Anatoly Zharnitsky (24th for $6,254), Daniel Lim (25th for $5,863), Jane Hitchcock (26th for $5,863), Dien Le (27th for $5,863), and Day 1B chip leader Nils Tolpingrud who exited in 30th place for $5,081).


The heads-up began with Matthew Sesso holding a 3:2 chip lead over Joe McKeehen. While the latter was able to chip-up and take the lead, Sesso regained his lead to eventually win the title. On the final hand, McKeehen pitted his pocket threes against Sesso’s pocket eights, which held up.
