TIPS 2020: Four Indians Make Day 2 of the Spanish Cup

Co-founded by Jaydeep Dawer and Manish Goenka, The Indian Poker Series (TIPS) returned for its third season to Europe’s largest casino – King’s Casino in Rozvadov for a seven-day long festival. Running from 3-10 February 2020 in collaboration with Spanish Poker Festival (SPF), it has wrapped up two starting flights – Day 1A and Day 1B. Taking place on February 4 was Day 1B where a total of 401 entries were registered. Following 16 levels of play, only 77 survived and advanced to Day 2.

Among the 77 survivors from Day 1B, Netherland’s Zhong Chen bagged the largest stack of 788,000. Spain’s Mario Martin (648,000) followed him in second place and Steve Berdoyes (423,000) rounded out top three stacks. From Team India, a total of seven players were seen in action but only 4 of them progressed from the day. Headlining the four Indians were Co-founder Manish Goenka and Kanishka Samant with 349,000 chips each. The other two Indians to qualify for Day 2 were Jaydeep Dawer (202,000) and Himanshu Dewan (125,000), who had failed to progress from Day 1A.

With 251 on Day 1A + 401 on Day 1B, the total field has reached 652 entries. With Day 1C still to be played today, 5 February, the field is expected to touch 900-entry mark. The Day 1C will begin at 10 AM local time. Day 2 is also scheduled to take place on the same day. Stay tuned for further updates!

Day 1 A

Day 1A of the Spanish Cup €50,000 GTD drew a total of 251 entries, each one paying €115 (~INR 9,048) buy-in. The day ended with only 53 survivors progressing to Day 2, with Antonio Castro bagging the biggest stack of 449,000 at the end of the day. Several Indians were seen in action, including Jaydeep Dawer, Himanshu Dewan, and Avneesh Munjal but they failed to progress.
