WSOP Moves Global Casino Championship Online; Announces Season Finale Online Circuit June 3-14

The COVID-19 continues to impact live poker. It has already forced the WSOP to cancel or move more than a dozen of its Circuit live events online, with the latest victim being the Global Casino Championship (GCC). On Friday (May 22), the WSOP announced that their $1 Million guaranteed GCC event has been moved online and will now be taking place at WSOP.com on September 13.

The invite-only event that awards a WSOP gold bracelet was scheduled for August 11-13 at Harrah’s Cherokee in North Carolina before the COVID-19 forced the organizers to move it online on May 22.

All the players who already qualified for the Global Casino Championship must be physically present in the states of New Jersey or Nevada in order to participate in the tournament. Qualifying players also need to create and verify their WSOP.com account well ahead of the tournament taking place.

Special Online Final Circuit Series With Over $1.5 Million GTD!

Meanwhile, the WSOP has also made a big announcement. The brand will be hosting a special Season Finale Online Circuit series that features 12 gold ring events. The prestigious event is slated to take place between June 3-14. The upcoming series will award a total of top 13 spots into the Global Casino Championship, with each of the 12 ring-event winners and the WSOP Online ‘Casino Champion’ earning a spot. However, it will not be awarding GCC leaderboard points, which means that the current top 50 standings are considered locked for the Online Global Casino Championship.

The Online Final Circuit Series offers the last chance to qualify for the GCC online, which means players can still qualify for the GCC online. The series has over $1.5 million guaranteed across its 12 WSOP Ring events. The buy-ins range from $215 and go up to $1000. The series concludes with a $300,000 guaranteed Main Event and is open to players from New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware.

“We want to do right by our players and see the promised prize money put up for grabs. Hopefully, the choice of an East Coast or West Coast destination makes it more viable for qualifying players. Our Online Circuit events have been huge successes to date, and WSOP.com is a viable alternative for the last qualification spots and this year’s championship. We look forward to returning to Harrah’s Cherokee in 2021, but until then, the show must go on…online”, said the WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart
