Throwback To When Kalyan Chakravarthy Won WPT India 100K High Roller In 2018

The moment you all have been waiting for is here! The most-awaited tournament series of the year – 13.5 Crore GTD WPT Online India 2020 – kicks off tomorrow on India’s no.1 poker site, Adda52.com.

Ahead of the glorious series, we decided to look back and relive some top moments from WPT India 2018 hosted at the Deltin Royale in Goa. The marquee series saw record-breaking numbers with 1800+ runners (697 in Main Event alone) coming to celebrate their favourite game and entering a host of exciting events on the schedule. The 100K High Roller tourney was probably the second most anticipated event at the series and it was the soft-spoken Kalyan Chakravarthy who turned out to be the biggest crusher of the High Roller after outlasting a field of 142 entries to bank INR 37.53 Lac.

2018 was Chakravarthy’s break-out year as he posted several impressive scores. Following a runner-up finish in the HK$18,000 NLHE Doupai Cup Main Event for INR 54,68,434 in February and a 7th-place finish in the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Macau HK$20K NLHE Deepstack for INR 9,42,356 in March, the Hyderabad native took down the Venetian DCPS 2018 $600 NLH Monster Stack at The Venetian at Las Vegas for a career-best $147,233 (INR 1.01 Crore) in July. He then followed up those big scores with a win in the 2018 WPT India High Roller, earning a hefty INR 37.53 Lac for his win.

Chakravarthy’s Aggression On FT Pays Off!

Chakravarthy’s journey in the WPT India High Roller was an incredible one. While it was hard for us to keep a track of the number of players he sent to the rail during the tourney, he entered the final table as a chip leader and was absolutely ruthless as he went on to bust 7 players on the final table!

He first targeted his guns on Raghav Bansal. The latter had shoved with his pocket sevens and Chakravarthy called with Ax10x. Chakravarthy hit one pair to eliminate Bansal in 9th place. Mayank Agarwal was another player sent packing by Chakravarthy. Agarwal got unlucky when he shoved 8 big blinds with 9x 9x into Kalyan Chakraverthy’s 5x 5x. While he looked strong on the flop, the turn 5x changed it all and he was busted in 7th place. Aditya ‘Bitti’ Agarwal who had pitted his 5d 3d against 2s 3s of Chakravarthy was the next to exit the FT. His straight lost to Chakravarthy’s flush.

Chakravarthy`s next victim was Ankit Kapoor. The latter had moved all-in with Ac Kd against 3h 3s of Chakravarthy. Exiting in 4th place was Abhinav Iyer who had shoved his Ac 9d against 10s 10d of Chakravarthy. The 3-handed play saw Amit Ajwani move all in with As Jh against Chakravarthy’s Ah Ad. Ajwani’s elimination left Chakravarthy and Adda52 Celebrity pro Minissha Lamba in heads-up.

A Thrilling Heads-Up For Title

In the heads up for the title, Lamba was out stacked 4:1 but looked undeterred. She fought hard but unfortunately couldn’t go all the way. Finally, she ran her Kd Qh against Chakravarthy’s As Qc. The board ran Ac 4s 9s 7h 4d and she bowed out in 2nd place after 2 days of grit and determination. She got a well-deserved prize of INR 23.63 lac for battling against the best in business and beating them!

Post her runner-up finish, Lamba graciously thanked the then Adda52 Team Pro Kunal Patni for being her mentor and said that he needed to train her better to ship the next WPT India High Roller!

Final Table Payouts (INR):

1. Kalyan Chakravarthy – INR 37,53,000
