WPT Online India Day 1: The Series Gets Off To A Flying Start; Bansal & Garg Win Opening Day Trophy Events!

The long wait for the WPT Online India (WPTOI) 2020 finally ended yesterday with the INR 13.5 Crore GTD series kicking off on WPT’s exclusive India partner, Adda52. The inaugural series got off to a flying start as not only was the INR 77.20 Lac guarantee for the opening day met but smashed as well in the process. A total of 3,546 entries came in, creating a mammoth INR 93,94,347 prizemoney.

Bansal & Garg Win Trophy Events To Rake In Biggest Scores

While the day saw hundreds of the game’s elite grinders taking to the virtual felt in an attempt to score big paydays, stealing the spotlight were Ayush Garg and Raghav Bansal. Both started their quest for WPT glory in style, winning the trophy tourneys of the day. Garg shipped the 30 Lac GTD WPT Kickoff to win INR 8.57 Lac and a beautiful WPT trophy, while Bansal took down the 30 Lac GTD WPT Big Game, earning INR 9.67 lac along with a WPT trophy. Headlining the day’s action were two trophy tourneys. The first of the two, the WPT Kickoff, began at 8 PM. The INR 5,500 entry buy-in event did reasonably well, drawing in 686 entries (including 350 unique players) to create a guarantee-crushing prizepool of INR 38.38 Lac. Coming out on top of the star-studded field was the well-known MTT pro Ayush Garg aka ‘lazyman’ who eventually outlasted WPT India 2018 Big Bounty champ Alok Birewar aka ‘apb1989’ in heads-up to win an impressive INR 8.57 Lac and a beautiful WPT trophy. Birewar earned a good INR 4.97 Lac for his runner-up finish.

The other trophy tourney, the WPT Big Game, also featured a 30 Lac guarantee. Like the WPT Kickoff, the 15k buy-in tourney starting at 9:30pm did pretty well, pulling in 280 entries. After almost eight hours of grueling play, it was 2018 WPT India HR FT finisher Raghav Bansal aka ‘balugawhale’ who powered his way to the top to win the single biggest score of the day worth INR 9.67 Lac and a beautiful WPT trophy. Finishing right behind him was Mithun Mahesh aka ‘Themiths’ who banked INR 5.76 Lac for his efforts. Laksh Pal Singh aka ‘BoomTilt23’ finished third to earn INR 4.34 Lac.

Among other big winners on Day 1 of the WPT Online India, ‘noelpais’ won the 5 Lac GTD WPT Classic for INR 1.12 Lac, while Jitendra Gadhwal aka ‘jeet0’ shipped the 3 Lac GTD WPT Late Night PKO for INR 88,396.
