38-Year-Old Poker Player Amber Nayyar Succumbs To Covid-19

 The Covid-19 has become deadlier in India with a massive rise in daily COVID-19 infections and deaths. India leads the world in terms of the average daily  COVID-19 infections and deaths. The country recorded over 3.57 Lac new covid-19 cases in the 24 hours ending 8 am Tuesday, taking the total count past the 2-crore mark. Amid a surge in Coronavirus or Covid-19 cases, the Indian poker community has lost another poker player in Amber Nayyar who passed away at the age of 38 from complications arising out of COVID-19. Born and brought up in Kolkata, he was a well-known name in the Kolkata poker circuit who frequently visited poker clubs in the City of Joy to play poker.

It was Akshay Nayyar who informed the untimely demise of his beloved brother via a Facebook post yesterday saying, “With profound grief and sorrow we regret to inform the sad and untimely passing of our beloved brother Amber Nayyar, it’s hard to believe that he is no longer with us.”

Nayyar’s demise is a stern reminder of growing concerns of the Coronavirus in the country. The Covid-19 is becoming deadlier with every passing day. Nayyar is the second Kolkata-born poker player the Indian poker community has lost within less than two weeks. A little over a week ago, it was Aman Kejriwal who succumbed to Covid-19. Like Nayyar, Kejriwal was also a familiar face in the Indian poker circuit with over INR 1.21 Crores in online winnings and several live cashes to his name.

Nayyar tested positive for COVID-19 on April 26. He was doing fine initially but passed away just four days after due to the healthcare system’s failure. He is survived by his wife and a 7-year-old daughter. Nayyar who began his poker journey in 2007 was a well-loved and respected poker player. A cheerful and smiling person, he will always be remembered for his amiable & helpful nature.

Nayyar’s sudden demise was deeply mourned by Mr. Krishnendu Guha, Chief Marketing Officer at Adda52. He said, “We are left speechless by the sudden demise of Amber Nayyar from Kolkata. This has created a big void in the poker world which will be impossible to fill. We at Adda52 family pray that his family gets enough strength to overcome this crisis and his soul rest in peace.”

Nayyar’s passing came as a major shock to many within the Kolkata poker circuit and messages of condolences have been pouring in. Popular pro Anil Adiani said, “That everlasting calming smile which warmed up every room he entered will forever be missed. Amber bhaiya shall always live on in our hearts.”

Another well-known pro from Kolkata, Mayank Agarwal wrote, “Always a cheerful and a smiling person, was always there to help in whatever circumstances. Genuinely a true loving friend!”

Condoling his demise, Shaswat Agarwal said, “Hey Humbaarrr….love you, bro. Still can’t believe that you’re gone. Your smile is all I can visualize again and again. It brings back so many memories. I know you are always there, in our heart, watching over and guiding us, I miss you so much. Rest in Peace.”

Shawn Chatterton said, “Amber, our dear friend, our gentle giant, will be missed greatly by friends and family. Amber bhaiya had many shortcomings, as do all of us but no matter how bad a situation he was in, I can remember always seeing his smile. You will be missed bhaiya. I hope you are at peace now wherever you are.”

Sailesh Lohia condoled Nayyar’s demise by saying, “We have spent some amazing time together, brother. Your ever smiling face will always be missed. The time when we went to Goa for your birthday is something I’ll cherish forever. Hope you stay happy wherever you are now.”

Nayyar’s demise is a big jolt for his family and the poker community. We deeply mourn his passing and pray Almighty to give strength and courage to his family & loved ones to bear this loss. RIP!
