Day 2 of the WSOP 2021 Event #59: $1,000 Tag Team is a wrap with 10 teams remaining and Team Newman holding the chip lead. Team Michael Newman and Robert Ormont will return for the final day of the tournament on Tuesday with a stack of 2,960,000, along with the other big stacks like Tomer Wolf – David Landell (1,900,000), Mike Ruter – Samy Dighlawi (1,700,000), Holly Babbitt – Michael Babbitt (1,345,000), Alfie Adam – Vidur Sethi (1,315,000) & Benjamin Miner – Dmitriy Uskach (1,065,000). Also in contention is the father-daughter duo of Amanda Botfeld and David Botfeld (790,000 chips). Here is a quick look at the final 10 remaining in contention for the title.

Event #59 recorded an impressive 641 teams, with only 127 teams making it to Day 2, including the Indian Team consisting of the only female Indian bracelet winner Nikita Luther and Adda52 Game Ambassador Kunal Patni. The team of Jeff Platt and Brent Hanks made it deep on Day 2 and were eliminated in 27th place for $3,276. Melanie Weisner and Xuan Liu of Team Weisner made it to the final two tables but were busted in 18th place for $3,836. Following them were a team of Jaeheung An – Simon Steedman (17th for $3,836) and Minkyun Kim – Sun Choi (16th place for $3,836).
The Indian team consisting of the former WSOP bracelet winner Nikita Luther & Adda52 Game Ambassador Kunal Patni finished 15th for $4,576 (INR 3.42 Lac). While this happens to be the first cash at the WSOP 2021 for Luther, it is by far the second time for Patni cashing at the ongoing series as he had previously finished 168th for $3,124 in Event #43: $1K Double Stack of the series.
Team India
Team India has been making its presence felt at the WSOP 2021 with already a plethora of deep finishes. After former bracelet winner Abhinav Iyer’s 12th place finish in Event #56 for $41,481 (INR 31.09 Lac), and Abhishek Goindi’s 47th place finish in Event #55: $400 Colossus for $6,120 (INR 4.57 Lac), it is Patni and Luther adding to India’s tally by posting a deep run in Event #59: $1K Tag Team.
Team India At Event #61: $600 Deepstack Championship No-Limit Hold’em
Event #61: $600 Deepstack Championship No-Limit Hold’em has several Indians in contention. The event drew 3,916 entrants generating a prize pool of $1,997,160. They were 588 players to make the money but only 448 players made it to Day 2. Part of this group were four Indians, with MPL Poker Ambassador Dhaval Mudgal (786,000) bagging the fourth-biggest stack for Day 2. Popular female pro Shuchi Chamaria bagged a stack of 307,000. Soon after busting the Colossus, poker coach Abhishek Goindi also jumped into the event and bagged 131,000. The fourth Indian to make it to Day 2 was none other than the two-time WSOP bracelet winner Nipun Java (125,000). Leading the survivors into Day 2 is the 10-time WSOPC ring winner Robert Hankins holding 868,000 in chips.
