APT VSOP 2022: New Zealand’s Slade Fisher Ships Championships Event; Deepak Bothra Finishes Third

The 2022 Asian Poker Tour (APT) Summer Festival Hanoi – VSOP was a blockbuster series for Team India with as many as five Indians winning APT titles at the series. The 13-day long series concluded with New Zealand’s Slade Fisher winning the Championships Event. The final table of the event began with India’s Deepak Bothra leading the way. Fisher was second in chips but got off to a great start and carried his momentum, winning the title for a career-best VND 2,298,440,000 ($98,200).

In addition to the top prize, Fisher also took home a beautiful APT Championships trophy and ring. Finishing runner-up to him was Singapore’s Kevin Lim who walked away with VND 1,532,270,000.

 It was a record-breaking field in this event and set a new APT Vietnam record of 288 entries. The prize pool swelled way past the guarantee VND 4,000,000,000, and reached VND 9,777,600,000 ($ 416,866), which was eventually shared by the top 29 players with a min-cash of VND 66,820,000.

As for Team India’s run in the tournament, three Indians final-tabled the event. Running deepest among them was the start-of-day chip leader Deepak Bothra. The 2017 WPT India PLO champion had a swingy ride and exited in 3rd place for a career-best VND 1,065,210,000 (INR 36.64 Lac).

Falling out before him was the APT Vietnam Hanoi Main Event champion Shardul Parthasarathi who cashing his second APT title but exited in 4th place for VND 769.38 Million (INR 24.25 Lac). Spartan Poker Pro Zarvan Tumboli also made it to the event’s final table. He began with the shortest stack and was the first player to fall out, exiting in 8th place for VND 287,310,000 (INR 9.89 Lac).

This was an interesting event from India’s point of view with seven Indian cashes. Ankit Wadhawan (11th for VND 166.26 Million), Ritwik Khanna (18th for VND 115.46 Million), Alok Birewar (23rd for VND 80.18 Million) and Akshay Nasa (29th for VND 66.82 Million) exited the tournament on Day 3.

The final day of the series was a break-out day for the Indian contingent with nine Indians posting FT finishes across three side events. The Super High Rollers was the second biggest event of the day with a buy-in of VND 86,000,000 and it was shipped by Ngyuen Quang Huy for VND 1,249,700,000. Nishant Sharma finished runner-up for VND 833,140,000, Akshay Nasa (5th for VND 312,850,000), and Siddhanth Kripalani (7th place for VND 156,220,000) being the other Indians to run deep.

The Monster Stack featuring a buy-in of VND 16,500,000 pulled in a crowd of 160 total entries to generate VND 2,328,000,000 in prize pool. The event was shipped by Le Dinh Hai for VND 402,430,000. From India, Jasven Saigal (3rd for VND 371,000,000). APT title winner Kamal Kumar Sogani (4th for VND 179,850,000), DPT April 2022 Ladies Special winner Kanchan Sharma (5th for VND 134,500,000), and Ritwik Khanna (8th for VND 82,430,000) also final-tabled the event.

The last event of the series was the High Rollers Single Day which was shipped by Hao Seo for VND 527,330,000. Featuring a VND 43,000,000 buy-in, the event generated VND 1,880,000,000 in prize pool. From India, only Kanchan Sharma cashed the event, finishing 6th for VND 110,560,000.
