In an impeccable show of skills and strategy, South Korea’s Seonguk Huh has won the record-breaking 2023 WPT Prime Taiwan Main Event. He reigned supreme from a staggering field of 1,359 entries, taking home the massive top prize of TWD 6,319,800 ($197,741), the WPT Prime Main Event trophy and a $10,400 seat for the season-ending WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas!
With a record turnout of 1359 entrants, the second annual WPT Prime Taiwan ME, easily surpassing the previous record of 1,224 entries set at Gold Coast, Australia last February. The event generated a whopping a prize pool of TWD 39,546,900 ($1,237,387), which was finally shared by the top 173 players. Haoshan Huang (173rd place) became the first ITM player, pocketing $821 in prize.
The final table of the largest WPT Prime main event hosted at the Asia Poker Arena had players from six different countries. Although, Dongkyu Kim began the table as the chip leader with 8,375,000, it was his fellow countryman Seonguk Huh who stole the spotlight after outlasting France’s Yannick Leonard in the final showdown. Leonard banked TWD 4,212,000 ($131,790) for his runner-up finish.
In the thrilling final hand, Seonguk Huh limped and Yannick Leonard pushed all-in for 4,200,000 out of the big blind. Hu made a snap call and turned over Ac Kd against the Ks Jc Leonard. The board ran out Kh 8s 3d Ad 2d, giving Hu two pairs with kings and aces to ship the coveted main event title.
