Alok Birewar Finishes 12th In WPT Vietnam ME; Kartik Ved Scores a 4th Place Finish in EPT Sochi National

The biggest highlight of WPT Vietnam 2019 was its VND 25 million Main Event and it saw a record turnout of 686 entries. Hosted at the Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh City, the 5-day long event ended with Vincent Chauve winning it for his career-best score of VND 2,300,000,000 (INR 68.71 Lac).

Chauve entered the final table as the chip leader and went on to extend his lead by eliminating Thien Phu and Tuan Pro to eventually reach the heads-up battle with Jeonggyu Cho. Chauve had a commendable chip lead over Cho. The latter tried his best but couldn’t go all the way, eventually finishing runner-up. Chauve got his first WPT title as well as the coveted lead in the WPT Asia Pacific Player of the Year race. His current live tournament earnings are estimated over $100,000.

Team India

While it was Chauve who won the coveted Main Event title, Team India did not fail to impress. A total of 16 Indians made it to Day 2. Leading them were Yasheel Doddanavar (333,000), Eka Vedantham (323,500) and Sumit Sapra (310,500). All the three were also among the top 10 stacks for Day 2.

On Day 3, only seven out of the 16 Indians managed to finish in the money with Ashish Munot becoming the last Indian to hit the rail in 20th place for VND 125,370,000 (INR 3. 74 Lac). The only Indian among 14 finalists advancing to the final day was Alok Birewar, who was finally busted by Tuan Pro in 12th place. Birewar won a good VND 230,350,000 (INR 6.88 Lac) for his deep run.

Birewar had Ad 3c against Tuan Pro’s 3d 3s. The board ran 6h 7d Kh Kc Qd where Pro took down the pot ending Birewar’s main event journey in 12th place. Birewar is one of the very talented poker players from Ahmedabad, India. He has earned several notable live cashes and a few big titles in his career till now, including 2018 DPT 65K High Roller and 2018 WPT India 25K Big Bounty titles.

EPT Sochi 2019: India’s Kartik Ved Finishes 4th For INR 32.75 Lac; Yury Masliankou Wins 

The 2019 European Poker Tour (EPT) Sochi opener – ₽77,000 EPT National ended on March 24 at the Casino Sochi. The event drew a record-breaking 721 entries and outlasting the field in this event was  the Belarusian player Yury Masliankou, who clinched his first-ever EPT title and career-best score of RUB 9,317,000 (INR 99.76 Lac). With this win, his total live earnings crossed $300,000-mark.

Masliankou started the final table as the chip leader and maintained his lead. After eliminating Alexander Sergutin in 3rd place, he eventually reached heads-up wiht Daniil Lukin. The two battled it out for almost 3 hours, while Lukin tried his best but he could not go all the way eventually finishing runner-up for RUB 5,705,000. The last hand of the tournament saw Masliankou with As 9h and Lukin with Qs 10s. The board ran 10h 3h 8s Ah 2s where Masliankou won the pot as well as the title.

Team India

Several Indians joined the field of this event, including WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant, Kartik Ved, Jayjit Ray and Tathagata Sengupta. Ray exited the event in 73rd place for RUB 135,100 (INR 1.44 Lac), while Sushant finished 30th for RUB 227,500 (INR 2.43 Lac). Ved was the only Indian to make it to the eight-handed final table in the tournament. He sent Andrey Subbotin and Mikhail Khabarov to the rail to reach the coveted final table. He managed to bag 1,385,000 in chips at the end of Day 3. While he started off well and managed to chip up against Alexandr Sergutin, his run eventually ended in 4th place. He collected an impressive RUB 3,059,000 (INR 32.75 Lac) for his deep run.
