The 2018 APT Finale Philippines is currently underway at the Resorts World Manila,Philippines. The ongoing festival had yet another action-packed schedule of events on Thursday. The series’ first shot-clock tournament – NLH Single Day (Shot-Clock) saw 66 runners to battle it out for the title. Finally, it was Indian Challenger Amanpreet Singh who shipped the tournament and took home the first place prizemoney of PHP 273,300 (around INR 3,63,648) in addition to his first-ever APT trophy.
It was spectacular performance from Singh who nourished his stack well and finally cruised into the final table. He then went on to defeat Malaysia’s Ming Ken Thoo heads-up to win his first APT title.
Singh came into this series from Vietnam after attending 2018 APL Road Series Vol. 3 Main Event. Singh recently notched up a sixth place finish in 2018 APT Vietnam Monster Stack (VND 81,160,000 – INR 2.43 Lac) in October. Now, he must be very happy after his win in this event of 2018 APT Finale.
Heads-Up Play
After Tollefsen going out in 3rd place, it was heads-up between Ming Ken Thoo and Singh. Thoo entered heads-up as the chip leader but Singh secured a quick double up with A-J defeating Thoo’s Q-J. While Thoo regained his lead but could not go all the way. Eventually, the final hand came where Singh had 10c 9c and Thoo held 9h 9s. The board ran out Qd 2s Kc Jc 7d giving Singh the pot as well as the first APT title. Unfortunately for Thoo, he settled for PHP 182,200 for his runner-up finish.
Apart from Singh, there are two more Indian challengers making headlines at the series, namely the 2017 WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant (70,600) and Dilip Menon (31,300). The former has made Day 2 of the main event from Day 1A, while the latter has moved into Day 2 from Day 1B.
Day 1B of the 2018 APT Finale Main Event saw 169 entrants with just 103 entering Day 2. Emerging as the chip leader was Ang Boon Seng who bagged the lead with a massive 158,900 in chips.
