APT Vietnam: Nishiyama Leads Day 1B Survivors in Championships Event, Sapra Sole Indian To Progress

The APT Vietnam Championships Event is currently underway and yesterday saw its second flight – Day 1B, which drew an impressive turnout with 101 entries. After 8 levels of play, the day ended with only 49 players surviving and advancing to Day 2. From India, Sumit Sapra was the only player progressing from Day 1B of the VND6 Billion Championships event and he bagged 108,700 in chips.

Currently ranked 20^th in India All Time Money List, Sapra is one of the most experienced Indian players. A few days back at the ongoing series, Sapra had finished 14^th for VND 11,110,000 in the Dafabet Head Hunter and will now be looking for another deep run in the Championships event.

With Sapra advancing from the second flight, a total of 6 Indians have entered Day 2. The five other Indians who had advanced from Day 1A were Laksh Pal Singh (166,800), Ashish Munot (107,000), Manoj Pentakota (146,400), Vaibhav Sharma (99,800) and Manish Lakhotia (57,500). With 25 survivors from Day 1A and 49 from Day 1B, a total of 74 will return for Day 2 play today.

Bagging the chip lead on Day 1B was Japan’s Hiroshi Nishiyama (249,800 – 208 big blinds). The other big stacks were Vietnam’s Cao Ngoc Anh (243,900 ) and New Zealand’s Oliver Helm (219,000 ).

Maulik Shukla Finishes 5th in Deep Stack Hyper Turbo #1

Another event running at the series was the VND 5,500,000 Deep Stack Hyper Turbo where UK’s Francis John Miller emerged as the winner for VND 70,010,000. India’s Maulik Shukla finished 5^th for VND 15,680,000 (INR 46,223). Miller beat a 42 entry-field and Feng Chan Kao in heads-up play.
