Dan Smith Beats Daniel Negreanu To Win Super High Roller At WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic

Dan Smith has taken down the 2017 Five Diamond World Poker Classic $100,000 buy-in super high roller event at the Bellagio. He defeated a field of 39 entries to capture the title and the $1,404,000 first-place prize. It was the third biggest cash for Smith who now holds over $19 million in winnings. Smith is no stranger to success at the Bellagio. He won the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic_ $10,300 no-limit hold’em main event back in 2013 before this high roller win, which has also helped his standing in the 2017 Card Player Player of the Year race. This was Smith’s fourth title and 14th final table finish of the year 2017. For his win in this high roller event, Smith earned 600 POY points to move into 12th place in the overall POY rankings.

Smith faced a tough competition at the final table, which included the likes of Bryan Kenny, Spain’s Sergio Aido, Isaac Haxton, Stefan Schillhabel and Daniel Negreanu. 2017 Player of the Year points leader Bryn Kenney finished in sixth-place for $234,000 and 200 POY points. This was Kenney’s 22nd final table finish this year, with five titles and $8,128,628 in earnings. Spain’s Sergio Aido was the next player to go out, earning $312,000 and 250 points. Isaac Haxton went out in fourth place for $390,000 and POY 300 points. Stefan Schillhabel in third place for $624,000.

After Schillhabel leaving the final table in third place, Smith entered the heads-up play with a good lead. The dual didn’t last long and ended with Dan Smith emerging the victorious for $1,404,000 in top prizemoney.
