DPT February 2018 High Roller Champion Alok Birewar Ships Adda52’s Godfather 4.0

Hailing from Ahmedabad, Alok Birewar is one of the emerging poker players on India’s poker landscape. Playing poker for several years now, he has notched up several big scores across online as well as live poker tournaments. Last year, he made two final table finishes in the DPT PLO event, taking 3rd place in the February edition and then finishing runner-up in the April edition that year.

This year has been amazing for him. In February, he came into big headlines for taking down the DPT 65K High Roller event for his career-best live cash of INR 17.74 Lac. Later in March, he finished 3rd at the 2018 EPT ₽ 30,300 No Limit Hold’em Single Re-Entry Event in Sochi, Russia. Continuing his momentum going, he won last night’s Godfather 4.0 for an impressive INR 5,20,000 in top prize.

Last night’s Godfather featuring 20 Lac GTD prizepool and an entry to 10 Lac Europe SNG for the winner attracted a total of 345 entries. Alok Birewar aka ‘APB1989’ managed to build up a decent stack early on and went on to extend his stack further in this event. However, he became one of the short stacks at the final table but then he won a few decent pots to eventually beat a strong field of 345 entries in this event. In heads-up, he faced Loveleen Singh aka ‘pharlap’ who gave him a tough fight but could not go all the way. On the last hand, ‘APB1989’ held 8h 8d, while ‘pharlap’ had Ks-10d. The board was 9h 7s 6s 5s Qc where ‘APB1989’ sealed the win with straight 5h 6s 7s 8h 9h.

We caught up with the winner Alok after this tournament and he said, “It is always a great feeling when you close out a tournament. It was my biggest score on adda52.com this year. The field was decent but the fact that I built up a good stack early on and it helped me to play my game.”

“It was a fun final table as well where I started near the bottom but I got a few decent spots to chip up and then ran well. I really enjoyed playing Godfather. A great structure and decent guarantee!”

A total of 27 places were paid out in this tournament with a min-cash of INR 12K. India’s WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant ran deep but ended his run finishing 7th for INR 70K.
