GPI Rankings: Ole Schemion replaces Dan Smith for #1, while Daniel Colman makes his Top 10

This Christmas week, Dan Smith reign gets over. After spending 17 weeks at the Number 1 position in GPI World Poker Rankings, Dan Smith was replaced by Ole Schemion (GPI#1, +1). Earlier, Smith has replaced Schemion at #1 on August 27. In 2013, Jason Mercier (GPI#14, -3) had also spend 17 weeks at #1 between from May 13 to September 4. This is for the second consecutive year that the Schemion’s late-season charge has been the influential factor in positioning him again at #1 in the GPI World Poker Rankings. Schemion also moves by Davidi Kitai (GPI#3, =) in the GPI European Poker Player of the Year race.

This year Stephen Chidwick (GPI#5 CB, +5) played smarter at the EPT Prague Festival to restore his previous year’s performances in Prague. He finished at third place in the Prague Super High Roller event thereby ranking at his career-best #5 in the GPI World Poker Rankings.

On every Thursday, GPI (Global Poker Index) releases a list of top 300 Poker tournament players. To dwell this list of top Poker performers of the World, GPI maintains a Poker Index point system and uses special formula. Through this leader-board, GPI as well announces Player of the Year.

This week also spotted the three new entries in the GPI Top 10. Bryn Kenny (GPI#6, +10) bounced back in Top 10 following a pair of Super High Roller cashes in Las Vegas. Martin Jacobson (GPI#9, +10), 2014 WSOP World Champion also makes a return to the Top 10 while Daniel Colman (GPI#10, 8), 2014 Big One for One Drop Champion sets his first step in Top 10. Olivier Busquet (GPI#11, -4), Daniel Negreanu (GPI#15, -10) and Scott Seiver (GPI#18, -12) made a downturn rolling out of the Top 10.

Russian Professional Andrey Zaichenko (GPI#92 CB, +141) made a gigantic upswing to #92 in the GPI Top 100. Thanks to his recent win in the EPT Prague High Roller event and a Top 100 finish in the Main Event in Prague. After attaining big victories in Las Vegas , Garrett Greer (GPI#68, +100), Thomas Marchese (GPI#127, +98) and Alpha8 champ Andrew Lichtenberger (GPI#71, +63) made notable moves in the GPI Rankings this week.

As many results from the 2014 World Series of Poker have entered a second aging period, Calvin Anderson (GPI#232, -132), John Hennigan (GPI#286, -117) and Simeon Naydenov (GPI#244, -115) lost edge in their standings.
