This week in the GPI Rankings, Dan Smith set a strategic mark by staying at the top for 16 consecutive weeks, almost double of his strongest contender, Ole Schemion (GPI#2), who held the #1 rank for 8 straight weeks this spring. Though Dan Smith (GPI#1, =) continue to rule at the top on the GPI World Poker Rankings, the week was not good enough for him. Smith’s two cashes from 2014 WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic have moved into the third aging period, his GPI score fell to under 4,000 points for the first time since August 20th.
Two Canadian players gained momentum this week as former World #1 and GPI Player of the Decade Daniel Negreanu (GPI#5, +3) and Aussie Millions Champion Ami Barer (GPI#6 CB, +4) each make their way up the standings this week. Jacob Schindler (GPI#10, +5) reappeared in the top-notch list this week; and WSOP Main Event World Champion Martin Jacobson (GPI#13, -4) drops out of the Top 10 for first time considering his gigantic victory last month at the Rio in Las Vegas.
On every Thursday, GPI (Global Poker Index) releases a list of top 300 Poker tournament players. To dwell this list of top Poker performers of the World, GPI maintains a Poker Index point system and uses special formula. Through this leader-board, GPI as well announces Player of the Year.
This week Christopher Bolek (GPI#133 CB, +115), winner of 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open, makes a big move up the ranks, scooping his previous career-best #221 rank. He accumulated over 850 GPI points to his totals during the month of November. Furthermore, WSOP Circuit Cherokee winner Jacob Bazeley (GPI#109, +77) and GPI July Player of the Month Chance Kornuth (GPI#185 CB, +77) made significant moves up this week.
Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier (GPI#154, -70) drops out of the Top 100 for the first time in GPI history. This season highly regarded PokerStars Team Pro collected nine cashes but was unable to collect points at the rate that he had in the past. Other notable players who had a great fall in the rankings include WSOP bracelet winners John Hennigan (GPI#169, -62) and Loni Harwood(GPI#269, -46); and WPT Legends of Poker Champ Chris Moorman (GPI#271, -54).
