Heads-Up With Alok Ranjan Who Won Godfather 5.0 To Claim His Best Online Score

As it does every week, India’s largest poker site – adda52.com brought up an opportunity to rise and shine in its flagship weekly tournament – Godfather, a super-value online poker tourney that took place on Friday this time and guaranteed INR 20 Lac GTD prizepoool for a buy-in of INR 5500. The popular tournament that also promised the winner a ticket to INR 7 Lac Aussie SNG drew 381 entries. Outlasting these entries this time was Alok ‘darkmatter’ Ranjan who earned INR 5.20 Lac.

On his way to the grand victory in this tournament, Alok beat a tough final table that included the likes of this month’s Ace Race 1 winner – Siddarth Singhvi aka ‘badtameez_donk’ (5th place for INR 1.45 Lac) and Anish Patra aka ‘anishpatra’, who ended his run finishing 7th for INR 70k.

As mentioned, the tournament guaranteed INR 20 Lac GTD prizepool, which was distributed among the top 27 finishers with min-cashes starting from INR 12K. Some other notables who finished in the money included Akshay Nasa aka ‘vibaks’ (17th place for INR 15K), who recently grabbed headlines for winning Adda52’s Crazy Leaderboard VI and Adda52 Millions. Another player worth mention here is the online grinder – Vasu Shrest aka ‘vasushrest’. He took 22nd place for INR 12K.

A product of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Dhanbad, Alok has been playing poker for several years now. He was a part of Haryana Hunters in PSL Season 1 and he also made it to the PSL Pro draft for PSL Season 2. While he has cashed out in several tournaments on adda52.com, this win was by far his biggest score. We caught up with Alok after his win and here are the excerpts:

OPN: Hi Alok, a big congratulation! How does it feel to win your first Godfather?

Alok: Thanks a lot! I feel elated to have shipped it. It has definitely opened the door for me to play more poker tournaments on adda52.com, to which I am looking forward.

OPN: How tough was the field and how was your overall experience in this tourney?

Alok: The field was a good mix of pros and recs with more regs lasting towards the end (obviously).

OPN: Can you share your tournament journey from start to finish in this tourney?

Alok: I started off well against Kunal Patni and other regs with whom I was constantly tussling for the initial 4-5 hours. I managed to build a healthy stack but when the blinds got higher, I lost a crucial flip with my KQ losing to AT and got down to 10BBs. Then, took my spots and and maneuvered my 10-20BB stack well till the FT started. On the FT, there were couple of good players in Siddharth Sighvi and Anish patra but mostly weaker recreational players. Once Patra and Singhvi got out and with 4 players left and still sitting at 4/4, I knew I was winning this unless a blow or a cooler happened, none of which happened fortunately and in due time, I was able to outplay them all.

OPN: Finally, your plans in online and live poker? What about WPT India next month?

Alok: Yeah, I am looking forward to continue this momentum, not get too out of line and transfer it live. Definitely planning to play the WPT India (starting from 13th November 2018 at Deltin Royale in Goa) and will keep an eye on the satellites running on adda52.com.
