Macau Poker Cup: Eric Fung wins the Baby Dragon event for HK $359,282

macau-poker-cupMacau Poker Cup 22 kicked off this Friday at “PokerStars LIVE Macau” poker room drawing over 700 players across the initial 3 events. Headlining the action was Eric Fung of Hong Kong who outplayed the field of 289 runners to clinch the Baby Dragon title with the top prize of HK $359,282.

A prize pool of HK $2,381,108 was distributed in the 3 events out of which The Baby Dragon Final Table grabbed the lion’s share. “It’s a solid start and the numbers are up on the previous Macau Poker Cup, PokerStars LIVE Macau Tournament Director Rex Cheong said. “Things will really ramp up this week as we approach the Red Dragon Main Event next Saturday.”

The 17-day long poker fiesta began on Friday with the inaugural event $2,000 Deepstack NLH ($200,000 Guarantee). The opening event ran for 2 days and it was Chih-hsin Hsiao of Taiwan clinching the first win of the tournament on Day 2 for HK $111,100.

Baby Dragon, the exordium to the Main Event Red Dragon began on Saturday drawing a record number of 289 entries which created a prize pool of HK $1,513,782. After the day-long battle across the poker tables, only 47 players remained live in the contest. Adda52 Team Spades pro Kunal Patni who won the ACOP Spadie last year was enjoying a good run on the felt in this event but fell off in the 66th place when his Ace-Queen faced the opponent’s Ace-King with another Ace on the flop.

The champion Eric Fung started the Day 2 action as one of the shortest stack but managed to land up on the Final Table with Taiwan’s James Chen, China’s Yuan Qi and Singapore’s Adrian Yeap. James Chen aggressive moves helped him make it to the Heads-up battle with Eric Fung. In the final hand, Fung’s dA,sJ dominated Chen’s sA,d4 when the board ran h10,hA,h8 to bring him the Baby Dragon title with HK $359,282 in cash.

The 3rd event $2,500 KO Bounty was played alongside Baby Dragon event on Sunday. Taiwan’s Ming Yuan Lee triumphed in this 1-day event taking home HK $65,000 which also is his first live tournament win.

A series of events is lined-up prior to the Red Dragon Main Event which kicks off this Saturday, 7th March. Kunal Patni will be playing all week long while other Adda52 Team Spades pros Amit Jain and Aditya Sushant will be joining him on 6th March for HK$5,000 Megastack and HK$12,000 Red Dragon Main Event.
