MPC 21: Red Dragon Event- Kanjani, Chandra, Verma amongst Indians making Day 2

reddragonThe Red Dragon Event, the showcase event of the Macau Poker Cup(MPC) starts its Day 2 today with the 3 starting Day 1 flights seeing a huge turnout. Day 1C as expected saw the maximum entries with 404 players lining up for action. Coupled with Day 1A ‘s 213 players and Day 1B’s 148 players, the HKD 11,000 buy-in Main Event of MPC saw 808 players in all vying for the coveted Red Dragon Trophy.

India had a sizable contingent playing the MPC and specifically the Red Dragon has a huge following from the sub-continent following Akash Malik’s 5th place finish in MPC 20. Indian poker players lead the country’s charge in the form of Bharathan Balasubramanium(78,600 chips), Aditya Sushant(49,000 chips), Rajeev Kanjani(33,800 chips), Sailesh Verma(35,000 chips) and Mayurh Aggarwal(47,600 chips). From the 16 who played the MPC, it is now down to these 5 Indian poker players to slay the dragon and accomplish a nation’s collective poker dreams.

Day 2 will start with 221 players combining from the 3 starting flights and will lead by Day 1A chip leader Wei Yang who holds 166,700 chips. Close behind him is Mikal Blomlie with 169,500 chips who also nosed ahead on Day 1C. Former Red Dragon Champion Wing Cheong Chong is also looking to match his 2010 Red Dragon trophy and stays ahead with 152,500 chips. Action will resume soon on Day 2 when the players will return to fight it out for the top prize money of HK$1,667,000 and also a chance at the coveted trophy. Some of the big names returning to the felt include Kenneth Leong(71,600 chips), Lester Pinto(52,700 chips), Celina Lin(52,000 chips), Raymond Wu(34,800 chips) and Raiden Kan(21,800 chips).
