TIPS: Paunescu, Ramkrishna Yewale, Hota & Ankit Kapoor Win Titles; 3 Indians Among Final 17 In ME

The TIPS (The Indian Poker Series) is currently underway at the King’s Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic. With several events already done and dusted, it is now in its final stages. Just one day is left for the series and it is currently hosting its marquee Main Event where there are just 17 players remaining. Among the final 17, there are 3 Indians – Pulkit Goyal, Tarun Goyal and Gaurav Gupta.

 

The series started on 6th March  with its opening event – TIPS & KENTA Welcome Event, which featured €115 (INR 9,111) buy-in. The opening event drew a total of 185 entries generating €19,000 (INR15,05,321) in prizepool. The top 20 finishers were paid with a min-cash of €247 (INR 19,569).

Outlasting the field of 185 entries was Romania`s Ciprian Paunescu who pocketed €4,557 (INR 3.61 Lac). Paunescu who holds close to $80,000 in live earnings defeated Israel’s Ezra Shekel heads-up to claim his first TIPS title. The latter pocketed €3,107 for a runner-up finish. India’s Himanshu Dewan was among the top contenders for the title but he exited in third place for €2, 052 (INR 1.62 Lac).

Dewan cruised his way into the final table and did pretty well. However, his deep run came to an end  when he got unlucky with pocket queens and lost against his opponent’s jack-queen in a preflop all-in.

Jayant Ramkrishna Yewale Wins Turbo Noon Freezeout For €700 (INR 55,097)

Following TIPS & KENTA Welcome Event was the Turbo Noon Freezeout on March 7. Running alongside with the first starting flight of the marquee main event, it featured a modest €90 (INR 7,084) buy-in and drew a total of 30 entries. The event wrapped up in just few hours and outlasting the field in this event was India’s Jayant Ramkrishna Yewale who won the coveted title after a 3-way chop.

Pune-based Yewale split the remaining prize pool of €2,100 with the two other finalists to bank €700 (INR 55,097). It was not the first live tournament for the player in an overseas destination as he has already traveled to Sri Lanka and Las Vegas for attending the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the past.

The total field of the tournament generated €2,280 (INR 1.78 Lac) in prizepool, which was shared by top 5 finishers. After David Levy and Kfir Zohar exited in fifth and fourth places respectively, the final three players agreed to a deal. While €1,050 was initially reserved for the champion with the runner-up to pocket €634 and third-place finisher to take home €416, they agreed to chop the prize pool evenly, €700 (INR 55,097) each. ‘Rez’ finished third, while Shaul Weinstein ended as runner-up.

Binyamin Hota Wins Poker Classic 1, Satyam Surendra Finishes Runner-up

 Another event to wrap up at the ongoing TIPS was the the Poker Classic 1 on 8th March. The event drew a total of 190 entries and saw strong participation from the Indian players. Headlining the Indians at the event was Satyam Surendra who put up a good fight but could not go all the way, eventually finishing runner-up to Israel’s Binyamin Hota. Hota won the event for €3,464 (INR 2.72 Lac) in top prize, while Surendra pocketed a cool €2,361(INR 1.85 Lac) for his runner-up finish.

Surendra is primarily an online player and it was his first live tournament. It was also his biggest live score till date and he was very happy about it. “Winning and losing are the part of any game but I’m really happy to finish runner-up and get a decent score here,” Surendra said, after the event.

Another Indian to run deep in this event was Himanshu Dewan, who finished 9th for €347 (INR 27,299). It was second final table for Dewan as the player had also finished third in the TIPS & KENTA Welcome Even to pocket €2,052 (INR1.62 Lac). Adda52 Team Pro Tarun Goyal was also seen in action but he exited it before the money bubble. In a three-way pot, Goyal held pocket tens against pocket queens and ace-king of his opponents. A third queen on the river saw his opponent hit three-of-a-kind to win the pot. While the second opponent took down the side pot, Goyal got eliminated.

A healthy participation on a buy-in of €90 (INR 7,084) generated a sizeable €14,440 (INR 11,36,037) prize pool. The top 20 players were paid out with a min-cash good for €188 (INR 14,790).

Ankit Kapoor Takes Down KENTA Turbo Omaha After Heads-Up Deal

Running alongside final two starting flights of the main event was the KENTA Turbo Omaha, which featured a buy-in €115 (INR 9,049). The event drew a total of 107 entries and generated €10,165 (INR 7,99,877) in prizepool. Top 12 places were paid out with a min-cash of INR €100 (INR 7,868).

Outlasting the field was banker-turned-poker- professional Ankit Kapoor, who had recently grabbed headlines for taking down DPT February 2019 Main Event for INR 22.50 Lac. Continuing his hot run, Kapoor has picked up another win to become second Indian to claim a title at the ongoing TIPS Winter Edition. Before him, it was India’s Jayant Yewale who had claimed the Turbo Noon Freezeout title.

Moving into heads-up, Kapoor struck a deal with fellow countryman Rahul Kumar who fought it well but could not go all the way. Kapoor clinched the title for a €2,796 (INR 2.20 Lac) payday. The runner-up Kumar had to finally settle for €1,987 (INR 1.56 Lac) in prize money for his deep run.

The final hand of the tournament saw Kumar with Qx 8x 10x 6x and Kapoor with 4c 2s Qs Qd. The board ran out Qx 9x 7x 3x 7x where Kapoor took down the pot as well as the coveted title.

Another Indian to run deep and make it to the final table in this event was Vineet Kumar who finished fourth  for €1,001 (INR 78,768). Some notables to cash were Germany’s Torsten Frank Rink (12th for €100), Shlomo Tarshish (11th for €254) and Dino Becirovic (10th for €254) who bubbled the FT.

 Three Indians Among Remaining 17 In Tips Main Event

The Indian Poker Series (TIPS) has now reached its final stages and there is only day to go for the series. The series is currently hosting its €350 Main Event, which attracted a field of 1,417 entries. Today is the final day of the Main Event and there are just 17 players are remaining in contention.

Leading the final 17 is Israel’s Kfir Tubi with 8,195,000 in chips. Following him in chips is India’s  Pulkit Goyal who holds 7,635,000 in chips. Goyal is leading in chip counts among the 3 Indians who have entered the Final Day. Adda52 Team Pro Tarun Goyal holds 10th place with 3,545,000 in chips, while Gaurav Gupta is holding 16th place with 1,845,000 chips. All the three Indians are well-known players in the Indian circuit and have done pretty well, both in online and live poker.

The 6th and final flight of the Main Event was a Turbo format and it attracted a total of 226 entries. The survivors from this flight joined another 278 players who progressed from the 5 previous flights. The 300 + field has come down to just 17 players. Among the remaining 17, it is Tubi who has the best chance to win the title. If he does, he will earn his first live title as per TheHendonmob.
