Weekly Poker Wrap Up: 2016 WSOP, WPTN China, ACOP and EPT Malta

Last week saw some interesting developments in the world poker circuit. Here we bring up the top stories from the poker world, including the final table results of the 2016 WSOP and WPTN China.

2016 WSOP Main Event Final Table:Qui Nguyen Leads Final Three

The 2nd day of the Main Event of the 2016 WSOP got underway with 5 remaining players. After the elimination of Vojtěch Ruzicka in the 5th place and Michael Ruane in the 4th place, Qui Nguyen led the remaining 3 players with 197,600,000 chips. His closest competitors were Gordon Vayo with 89,000,000 chips, and Cliff Josephy with 50,000,000 in chips. A massive field of 6,737 has come down to just three players.

Qui Nguyen had a rough start but he managed to double up through Ruane on fourth hand of the day. Ruzicka came as the first elimination of the day. He ended it up in fifth place for $1,935,288. Following him was Ruane, who took a big hit against Josephy. From then on, he continued trending down and finally was finished in 4th place for $2,576,003. Now it is the battle of the remaining last three. Stay tuned in to watch out for as to who will be the next champion of the 2016 WSOP Main Event.

2016 WPT National China: Adda52 Pro Live Kunal Patni and Sandeep Rajora Shine in Side Events

The 2016 WPT National China is underway from October 28 and will continue through November 3, 2016 at the Luxurious MGM Grand Sanya. Promising a mammoth guaranteed prize pool of ¥8.88 million, the day 1A of the WPT National China proved huge success, attracting total entries of 446, including 1 Adda52 Pro Live Kunal Patni. The Day 1A saw Kunal Patni get busted early though, he shined in the side event NL High Stake (180 cap)on 30th October. The Mumbai-based poker pro finished at 4th place, earning 49,480 RMB in prize money. India’s Sandeep Rajora also grabbed headlines, by finishing at the 3rd place in the side event PL Omaha Turbo (8 max, 88 cap) on 29th, October. He took down 11,480RMB as the prize money for his efforts.

2 Adda52 Qualifiers Make Into Day 2 of the WPT National China 2016

The Day 1B saw the two Adda52 qualifiers making into Day 2 of the WPT National China at MGM Grand Sanya. The Day 1B attracted 440 entries, including 7 Adda52 qualifiers- Rahul Trivedi, Abhineet Jain,Kaushik Pradeep Chafekar, Prashant Jha, Sandeep Rajora,Gagandeep Malik and Saurabh Arora. The good news for Indian poker circuit is that Gagandeep Malik and Saurabh Arora among Adda52 qualifiers have made into Day 2 and will be battling it out on Day 2 in the main event of the 2016 WPTN China for a guaranteed prize pool of ¥8.88 million ($1.334 million)

2016 ACOP: China’s Shaoming Li Wins Spadie for HKD 428K, India’s Raghav Bansal Finishes 4th for HKD 125K

Chinese businessman Shaoming Li is in the big headlines after winning his first Spadie in the 2016 Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) for HKD 428,130. The 26-year old Shaoming Li started his day on ninth position in chips among 99 runners. It was not an easy win for him. He had to bust several pros and a field of 565 to claim his first ACOP title. After he eliminated many renowned players, heads up came between Sam Cheong and Li and it lasted for about one hour. In the final hand, Li raised to 345K pre-flop and was called by Cheong. Both players checked the flop 2d-4s-3d. The turn 10c came and Li moved all-in. After pondering for a while, Cheong called again. Li was holding Jc-Jd and Cheong with 10s-5s. The river brought 3c, giving Li his first ACOP title.

India’s Raghav Bansal started the series with a bang and finished in the 4th place for HKD 125,680 (Rs. 10.8 Lac). This win pushed him on to 2nd position on the Regional ‘ Asia Player of the Year( APOY) from India. Now, he is behind Nikhil Dangayach (1st place) by just175 points.

EPT Malta 2016: Aliaksei Boika of Belarus Wins EPT Malta Main Event

Belarusian pro Aliaksei Boika achieved a rare feet over the weekend by winning the champion title of the EPT Main Event for €355,700. Boika started his day as a short stack with just 960,000, almost a quarter of the chips that Mats Karlsson held on the final table. However, he got a great start by doubling up through Tomas Macnamara. A few hands later,

Boika eliminated Eli Saad in the 4th place. Then,after the elimination of Dmitry Yurasov in 3rd place, the heads up began between Boika and Mats Karlsson, 59-year old recreational player. Holding A-4, Karlsson raised to 200,000 pre-flop. Boika holding A-J made three-bet to 625,000 and Karlsson called. The flop came 2-Q-8 and Boika check-called a 550,000 bet from Karlsson. Both players checked and a King fell on the turn. Karlsson decided to move all-in for 2.555 million when a 7 landed on the river. Boika thought for a while and then decided to make a call to win €355,700. Perhaps he knew Karlsson was bluffing, so he decided to call.
