While Jake Schindler outlasted an epic final table full of seasoned pros to become the 2014 PCA High Roller Champion, The European Poker Tour(EPT) announced that it will celebrate EPT’s 100th Event by throwing a huge poker Festival Party in Barcelona in August. From August 16 – 27, 2014, the Casino Barcelona will kick off Season 11 of the EPT, once again partnering up with the successful Spanish regional Estrellas Poker Tour from August 16 – 21 to create a spectacular 12-day Barcelona poker extravaganza.
It was a day packed with adventure on thrill on the felt as the final 14 took to the table in the $25K Super High Roller Event aiming for the seven figure payout. Amongst the 14 survivors from the 247 entrants were PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst and Daniel Negreanu; others included 2012 WSOP Main Event Champion Greg Merson and Ole Schemion. But at the end of the day, it was Jake Schindler who survived to take the top prize of $1,192,624 in a short heads up match with Merson.
The third and final day began with Negreanu’s elimination at Merson’s hands in 14th place followed by Dan Smith’s exit. Myro Garcia was the final table bubble as Selbst held a huge chip lead entering the FT. Some big exchanges between Schemion and Marvin Rettenmaier later, the relatively long final table saw its first exit. Joao Viera went out in 8th spot and Schemion then lost out in 7th place. Denisov went out in sixth place followed by Robert Mizrachi who pocketed $389,720 for his fifth place finish.
Mustapha Kanit also followed suit for $492,600 in fourth place and it was three way action now. Selbst lost two quick pots and found herself exiting in third place collecting $607,580. Heads up action between Merson and Schindler didn’t last for long as the latter for heavily stacked. Schindler prevailed as the former finally made a FT and silenced his critics about being a ‘one event’ wonder.
Meanwhile, in the Main Event, Mike McDonald leads heads up action against Dominik Panka and is looking to create history by becoming the first ever player to win two EPT Titles. In other events of the 2014 PCA, Kathy Saraf was crowned the last lady standing in the women’s event.
