Nagaland Bill Update: 5-Member Committee to Review and Suggest in 3 Months

nagaland billIn the latest developments, the Nagaland Prohibition of Gambling and Promotion and Regulation of Online Games of Skill Bill, 2015 has been sent to a special committee for review and suggestion. The 5 member panel headed by ruling Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) MLA Khriehu Liezietsu will review the Bill for detailed clauses and advice the state government on which games to be included in this bill. Four other members of this special committee include legislators Mmhonlumo Kikon, B.S. Nganlang, L Khumo and Dr Imtiwapang Aier.

GLaws.in reported a summarized preview of the Bill introduced in the assembly. As per the reports:

In its present form provides for a licensing authority to regulate and license online games of skill which are offered for revenue (either through advertisements, rake, fixed fee or otherwise). Significantly, the Bill allows license holders to offer certain listed skill games to any jurisdiction in India which has exempted games of skill from the ambit of their gaming statutes. A list of games such as chess, poker, rummy, bridge, nap, solitaire, virtual sport fantasy league games and virtual sports have been classified as games of skill.

As reported by OPN India, the bill was likely to be deferred to a future date. And, now with the special committee given a duration of 3 months to review, the bill is believed to be discussed in next session of the state assembly. The state government of Nagaland may also withdraw or bring major changes in the bill as per the suggestion of the special committee.
