Poker players and pros have seen a huge rise in their star value especially since the online poker boom in 2003. Nowadays poker players ,due to their talent and skills, are as recognizable as sport stars. Here is a list of some professional poker players have appeared in movies and videos:
Johnny Chan (Rounders)
The two-time WSOP Main Event winner Chan played a cameo in the 1998 movie ‘Rounders‘. The movie involves a reformed gambler, Mike (Matt Damon), who must resort to the high stakes poker tables to help his friend, Worm (Edward Norton) pay off a debt to loan sharks. In this movie, Chan who is bluffed out of a pot by Mike, who is trying to convince underground poker player Joey (John Turturro) that he is able to compete with the best poker players in the world even after a poor show in the game. Chan also appeared in the 2009 Hong Kong movie Poker King as himself.
Phil Hellmuth (“Sex Room” by Ludacris)
‘Sex Room’ is a popular song recorded by Ludacris from his seventh studio album ‘Battle of the Sexes’). The music video has the world famous poker player Hellmuth who is making a brief appearance in the video. The 1989 WSOP Main Event champion is involved in high stakes poker game with Ludacris and his friends in Las Vegas.
Daniel Negreanu (X-Men Origins: Wolverine)
Canadian poker player Negreanu has 6 WSOP bracelets to his name and was also inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2014. He appeared in this 2009 release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The scene revolves around Wolverine’s (Hugh Jackman) poker game with Gambit (Taylor Kitsch). Soon, the game turns into a fight between the two superheroes. Negreanu is also at the table and watches as chaos ensues.
Phil Laak (Runner Runner)
The Irish poker pro Laak has won a WPT title and owns one WSOP bracelet but compared to the elite in the game, it is a little lower down the achievements order.
‘Runner Runner’ is an average film and has only has 5.9 on IMDB… Anyway, his appearance in this movie gave more exposure to the game of poker in the film industry as well as among movie buffs who watched in various parts of the world.
Adda52 Celebrity Pro Minissha Lamba
This is a scene from the popular Bollywood film ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ wherein Minissha (Mahi) plays as a small-town girl from Punjab. The scene involves Raj ( Ranbir Kapoor) who is convincing Mahi about her husband being the man of her dreams.
