WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic: Calvin Anderson Leads 180 Players Into Day 3

A new record has been set on the World Poker Tour today at Bellagio with 1,001 entries coming into the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic. This has shattered last season’s mark of 812 and set a new record for most entries in a $10,000 buy-in event. Meanwhile, Day 2 of the Season XVII WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic has ended with a 1,001-entry field coming down to just 180 players.

Leading the final 180 players into Day 3 is multiple bracelet winner Calvin Anderson. He has made two cashes on the World Poker Tour and is set to make another one tomorrow. Anderson collected 789,000 chips to get ahead of Joe McKeehen having the second biggest stack with 784,000. Other big stacks into Day 3 are Dan Shak (628,000), Darren Elias (569,000), Farid Jattin (570,000), Alan Schein (554,000), Brian Altman (520,000), Mo Arani (520,000) etc. Defending Champion Ryan Tosoc collected 162,000, while the Season XV Champ James Romero ended with 305,000 chips.

Anderson held the chip lead for most of Day 1 and he maintained his lead on Day 2 as well. “I don’t like to brag on myself or anything, but I got it in for six flips and lost them all. And I got Queens to Jacks once and won that. Besides that, I’ve been taking pots post-flop mostly and just either my bluffs worked or I made a hand and get paid. That’s kind of how it’s been going,” said Anderson.

Some top poker players who could not advance into Day 3 include big names, such as Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, David Peters, Maria Ho, Sam Panzica, Art Papazyan, and Alex Foxen.

The top 126 players would make money with a min-cash of $18,584. Watch out for Day 3, which will see a total of 180 survivors returning to the felts to battle it out for the top prize of $1,631,468.
