2020 WSOP Online: Garla Wins Event #55; India’s Bhatia & Khurana Score FT Finishes!

The 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online on GGPoker and Natural8 concluded its Event #55: HK$8,000 NLHE Asia Championship that drew in a total of 3,247 entries resulting in the $3.20 million prize pool. Day 2 of the marquee event on Sunday saw only 479 players return to battle it out for the coveted title. Eventually, coming out on top was Brazil’s Luis ‘Xapilskinha’ Assuncao Garla who outlasted poker coach Alexandros ‘THE Sheriff’ Theologis (2nd for HK$ 2,531,708 ) in the heads-up.

Team India has been doing pretty well at the ongoing series and yesterday was no exception. India’s Kunal ‘Alex_52’ Bhatia and Divanshu ‘d0rk21’ Khurana final-tabled the 55th event of the series. Bhatia fell two spots short of the coveted title and bracelet, finishing third for a HK$1,804,691 payday (INR 1.75 Crores). Khurana ended up in sixth place and banked HK$ 653,684 (~INR 63.67 Lac).

India`s WSOP gold bracelet winner, Abhinav ‘OBellaCiao’ Iyer also did well, finishing 15th for HK $120,314 – (INR 11.71 Lac). The top 404 players were paid out from a HK $24,677,200 prize pool (~$3,208,036) with a min-cash starting at HK $19,255.61 (~$2,503). Other notables to cash were Martin Zamani, Joao Vieira, Rui Ferreira, Alexandre Mantovani, Nick Maimone, Kristen Bicknell, etc.

Final Table

The first player to exit the final table was Spain’s Ignacio ‘Curandero’ Moron. He was followed by Vladas ‘Vladiator13’ Tamasauskas, and Eduards ‘IlIlIlIliIIl’ Kudrjavcevs. Khurana was busted by his follow countryman Bhatia in sixth place. Soon after the dismissal of Alan ‘TheCockroach’ Schein in fourth place, it was Kunal Bhatia himself who exited in third place, setting up heads-up for title.

Bhatia raised to 2.4 million and Luis Assuncao Garla 3-bet. Bhatia (AK) moved all-in for 21 million and Garla called with Ad-Ah. The board ran out 8s 7c 2s Kc 7h, ending Bhatia’s run in third place.

The heads-up began between Alexandros Theologis and Luis Assuncao Garla who started as the chip leader and went all the way to eventually ship the title. On the final hand, Garla pitted his Q-7 against opponent’s 2s -2c. The board ran Qh 10s 4h 5s 10h, giving the coveted title and bracelet to Garla.
